In yet another reckless attempt to create something I could probably buy cheaper than it cost me to mod, I dove into the X5 UV mod and I learned something. In all the discussion and photos I seen, I never heard about a few small steps. Everyone knows the while freeze pop method of opening these, but I ran into a problem getting out the LEDs once open. I found the hidden screw torx type under the white plastic center post. The photos tell the story. Now I need to know how to deal with the resistors so as to make sure the light is not under driving the LEDs form the recent UV GB using the standard CR123s. Any thoughts would be more than helpful. Thanks.

Ignore the stray hair (shown for size) as I was ripping it out until I figured out the part about the screw holding the head together.

Huh. My (white LED) inova had a torx screw under the post too, but I'm
pretty sure that it has some kind of glue rather than that nice removable
silicon gasket. Sigh.

that's probably an earlier version of the X5, everything is potted in those.
