This one was truely a pain in the @ss!!
Getting the legs soldered onto the XP-E was sooooo nerve racking!
I used my drill press with an end mill to take the heatsink down to the desired dimensions. I took my time with this mod to make sure I didn't mess anything up and must have test fit everything like 20+ times to get it right.
An XP-E Q3-5A from Eprom (Thanks!!) was used for better tint. An McR10 reflector was used to help give this tiny light some throw. I drilled out the hole for the optic so the reflector would fit snugly.

The only thing I have to finish up and figure out is what to use as a window. I was going to use a domed lense from a telescope, but decided against it due to the thickness and extra machining involved to get it to fit right. I am thinking about filling the entire McR10 with Norland Optical Adhesive to make a solid connection.

My other H30 sports an XP-E Q3-5A that I recieved from another member in trade that was actually made at Zebralights factory!:naughty:
So now I have 2 H30's with nice tint and two beam profiles.:twothumbs
One for flood, one for throw.

Getting the H30 apart wasn't too difficult but is time consuming to make sure everything goes well. Doing this mod took a long time and tested my patiance, but was worth all the missing hair..

EDIT: Updated Beamshots...added 11-26-09

Wow. I can't even come up with anything else to say.
That is one awesome mod:thumbsup:
I think you deserve this again:

But what kind of moron would trade off a H30 with factory-installed Q3-5A?:duh2:

edit: sheer coincidence I'm sure, but I wanted a little more oomph tonight, and am toting a modded E2DL!

Well said. I've been waiting for the ZL H31 with a more concentrated beam, but this puppy isn't just more concentrated, it throws. Nice job! It looks excellent.
Once again:

Like the guys used to say to me in college after meeting my girlfriend: "We're not worthy, we're not worthy"

You did it again! WTH....with a reflector too! :ooo:
:twothumbs

Beautiful! I can't believe it, a reflector to boot!

Any distance beam shots yet?

I got to see this one a little earlier tonight:naughty: It doesn't have a ton of throw, but... compared to the stock one... It's a drastic difference:devil: Yet another geat mod from Dafabricata:party:

And now I can say that an XP-G in a PR-T head is a huge improvement over the LuxIII that was in there:whistle:... Thanks again Tim:D

Awesome mod, Tim! May I ask how you took the H30 apart? I always cringed when the cool white xr-e lit up. I would love to have a 5A H30. Much thanks for your help :D

Yeah! :poke: :grin2:

A while back someone sent me one to upgrade the emitter. After removing the switch I could not see how the heatsink could be pulled out without damaging the domed lens that protrudes through the opening. I decided I was not going to try as I was not confident I could pull it apart & be able to reuse the lens.

Thanks for nice words guys!:wave::D

The emitter will likely be ruined while trying to get the plactic lense off. Probably doesn't matter if you are doing an emitter swap anyway.

Very innovative - you should register this mod so if any manufacturer want to use it you'll get some royalty + profit sharing
