Hey'all, it seems a few of you are waiting for your Rotary's. Are these custom orders, or regular ones? The reason for asking is I see online vendors with them, or is there something a person should know about before buying one online (ie. Old programming, or … ?). I'd really be bummed if I bought one (at $199.00), only to find it's not a current model.

Thanks

The rotary only has one revision at the moment, as far as I know.
So any rotary is up to date.
Yes there are shops selling them online like ledfiretorches, luxtrail, dkrsolutions, oveready, goinggear.
But I think the most users here who are waiting ordered directly at the HDS website. (I got mine from ledfiretorches)

Thanks nutcracker! A few days ago I ordered my Tac and holster directly from HDS, but since i'm also in AZ, .... I had to pay AZ sales tax plus ship (basically the cost of the holster ... LOL)! So this time around since this will be my second HDS, I'd like to see if I can save a few bucks!

Btw, I purchased my TN11 from Charlie at ledfiretorches since no one had it here in the States at the time. Great fellow, but I still paid your VAT tax! I gotta find a way to stop paying too much for stuff! .... LOL

EDIT: I was late
The vendors should be fine. The custom orders are if you want a certain combination of lens type, bezel, and switch. If you get the light from a dealer you can choose flush button with stainless steel bezel or protruding button with black coated stainless steel bezel, both lights have the default glass lens.

Speaking of the glass lens.
Mine has a bad looking fingerprint on it. How do I clean it? The manual says a non abrasive cloth. So what's that? Is a microfibre cloth ok?

Normally if you hold the HDS Rotary above shoulder level you can adjust the rotary wheel with your thumb and index finger.
But as I tied my light to my belt makeshift it I couldn't quickly detach it.
So I used the grip position where your little finger is next to the button, and you can adjust the rotary wheel too! Just grab the wheel with little and ring finger and rotate the body of the light with the other fingers. Though you have to know it works the other way round then normally. clockwise body turn makes the light darker. clockwise wheel turn makes it brighter.

PS: Do you know how resistant the rubber booth of the flush tail cap is? I ask because I realize I often use my fingernail to be able to press the switch.

If you're thinking about it visually, then you've got the whole lefty/loosie, righty/tighty thing to think about. If you think of the task in terms of touch sense then it's the same motion whether you've got the bezel pointed pinkie side or thumb side.
If you imagine your thumb and index finger as an arc, then for the left hand it's always a "from thumb towards index finger" twist to go up and a "from index towards thumb" to go down.
Visually confusing, kinesthetically straightforward.

I gave up cleaning mine because it just gets dusty again in my pocket, and it doesn't effect the beam. I would recommend rinsing it with tap water and blowing it dry. If that doesn't work you could try using a microfiber towel or cotton cloth, but don't use paper products, they are abrasive.

I know I'm ruining the flow of the thread. As a result of a really rough period in my life I'm going to indulge in some retail therapy.
My predicament is I can't decide between a few lights.

The first I'm thinking is the HDS rotary hence I'm posting in this thread. I already own a HDS 120 and a high CRI.

The second is the Sunwayman v10 Ti

Both are roughly the same price here in the UK I just can't decide between the two of them.

Does anyone own both and maybe guide me towards a solution.

@nutcracker,

I find Lenspen extremely useful and easy for cleaning small glass surfaces. Has a brush on one end and a charcoal coated wad on the other specifically for cleaning thumbprints and stains. You should be able to find them in any camera shops.

If you already own both the HDS, then the obvious answer would be the rotary. By now you should know about the quality you'd get with an HDS. And if you are happy with the rotary which I am pretty sure you will, you can always sell your 120 clicky to recuperate some of your costs.

Sold! Just needed that extra push. The quality of HDS lights is pretty good.

Why am I having so much trouble trying to customize my hds tactical. All I want to do is change the level on preset d. I've been at it for over an hour. My thumb is on fire from all of the clicks. I managed to enable customization somehow, but can't grasp this light. It's making me feel stupid. I'm pissed.

Any suggestions?

To enable customization: turn light on, unscrew light, screw light back together. It will turn on dimly, immediately click the light quickly repeatedly until it stops turning off, once it stops turning off hold the button down until the light turns off. Customization is now enabled.

To program preset D: Turn the light on. Triple click to get into preset D. Double click press hold (2 clicks followed by a 3rd click where you keep the button held down). Now you can customize D. Click until you have the preset you want. Once you have the correct choice hold the button down and it will save that selection.

Oh wow thanks. The manual should be revised. I just don't like they way it explains everything. Seems simple though.

Another question please! Is the beam profile the same between the 200 Tactical and 200 Rotary?

Thanks

Yes they are the same. The same LED and reflector is used in both lights so the beam profile should be identical.

You know you're a flashaholic if your flashlight is smart enough to make you feel dumb.

My T200 and Rotary were not the same. The Rotary had a different reflector than my T200. It was a coarser OP reflector that gave a much more diffuse hot spot with less throw and a pronounced dark ring around the perimeter of the beam. I love my T200 and kept it. I could not live with the beam on my Rotary and sold it.

Thanks, I've been going back and forth on the two, but was leaning more toward the T200 because of it's UI (since I have my V10R on me as well). After seeing your post (thanks again), I'm directing my sights on the T200.
