that is just the "nominal" voltage. It is typical of LiIon cells that actually charge up to 4.2V

the only potential issues are
1. it is a Protected battery. It might trip protection and shut the light off unintentionally (reported here)
2. the Fenix is longer (by 1.5mm), than a CR123, so the HDS might crush the battery, reported here

this is the 16340 I would recomend: Vapcel
because it is unprotected and 34mm long (matches CR123a). It also has 20% more capacity than the Fenix..

I will try to check the 16340s I used. I don't recall having any issues with any of the batteries.
I believe I had a couple of Fenix, Vapecell and possibly a few other manufacturers.

fwiw, it looks like your fenix is the 34mm long ARB-L16-700 without USB port, and is shorter than the 35.5mm long ARB-L16-700U w USB in this photo (and the newer 35.5mm long ARB-L16-700UP) :

The LED on the right (519a 4500K) has been de-domed, the colour temperature comes close to 3000K after this process.

SDR50. One of my favorites. I like the extra output and bigger hotspot in terms of a trade off from the pretty looking nichias. I think the SDR50 is fantastic paired with HDS reflector

It was already modified from the secondary market, I installed XP50.2 3V 2700K, I don't like the shade, too yellow, later I'll install 5700K. The beam is very wide. The reflector crushed the angles of the diode, more precisely a thin layer of soft silicone, I think it was necessary to grind the diode board from 2 to 1.5 mm so that there is no contact

I am glad to hear that the Fenix rechargeable 16340 battery is heavily used in HDS lights. I have had no issues using it and the maker said that the battery is safe to use in the light because its within the voltage range. My personal preference is having a battery with an on battery charging port. Only because I don't have a charging bay near me and most of the time primaries are at home or the office.

I've been using just about nothing else for probably five years or so now. So handy being able to just plug the battery in wherever there's a micro USB cable.

I see, I did not know that dome removal lowers the color temperature.

Anyone know why the older model HDS lights would shut off around 5 minutes? Is there a timer function that was programmed in there? This is while I'm using fully charged li-ion batteries of different manufacturers

Yes there's a shutdown option you can turn off in the programming function.
