I really hope I didn't start anything here Illum, just remember to have fun and you can always buy and sell to upgrade if you want. If the Bose sounds good to you, great! If not as you can see plenty of options. Cheers, MarkAfter sticking strictly to budget speakers dad thought its time to buy a surround sound system so we can listen to music "the way its meant to sound like." :twothumbs
Alright, so heres the deal, dad's been eying Bose sound systems ever since its first appearance as a CD player in Popular Science. Great, but theres a great deal worth of different models out there.
Any audiophiles here that has owned a particular system and likes it or have advice on buying sound systems please post them here :thanks:
Price is not a limit at the moment, but if you really must have an upper limit then leave it below $1,500
so far I've picked out the Bose Acoustimass 10 Series IV (black)
based on reviews from CNet and CircuitCity
but I wanted to make sure I've covered all the available options

Just bought a pair of Klipsch Image x10's...they sound great.:twothumbsplease god no BOSE.
or go the headphone route...
mehehehe...
I agree with those who suggest a sealed base unit. The ported one`s generally sound boomy. The sealed ones will give you a tighter deeper more true base. And as others have said...put your money into the speakers mostly...Dennon makes good affordable amps.
5 of these would run $1000...they claim to offer 360 degree sound that is fantastic for detailed music. This style needs to be placed on speaker stands a few feet away from side and back walls to get the best/proper sound...may not be the best choice if this could not be done as the reflections might cause problems with wave cancelations or holes in the sound field in the listen area...depending on where you sit. Also they would need to be mated with a base unit that would run up into the 120 hertz range (mid/upper base range) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8179428&type=product&id=1185267362842
