vinhnguyen54, I'm new to headlamps that don't suck. My buddy, David, just bought one of your 10,000 lumen torches and referred me to you. Currently I use the "el cheapo China light" and I love it but I need another headlamp for a better flood (for caves), all-purpose (for canyoneering), and submersible option.
  • Do you modify the ArmyTek Wizard v2 XM-L2?
  • What's your opinion of the Wizard vs. the Fenix HL55?
  • Does your modification just make the light brighter or do you play with heat sinking, battery efficiency, etc?
  • Can the unit be "locked off" somehow so I don't bump it on in my pack? (couldn't find that on Fenix website)
Thanks! -Chris

What can I expect for run times? Are they close to the original specs from fenix. With boost in current will the heat become too much with extended use? Thanks!

Turbo can get hot fast. Runtime untested though.

Just got my Fenix HL55vn (4.35A Turbo 1300 Lumen)!

I'm very happy with it. It has a very solid build quality. It's comfortable on my head and not too heavy. Very bright Turbo mode. Even the low 10 lumen mode is useful when you just need a little light.

Here are some photos I took of my dungeon(basement). LOL

The distance from me to the far wall is 8.8 meters or 28.7 feet.

This headlamp is selling almost 3 to 1 VS the HC90vn. So HC90vn will go soon. I only have a few left

This may have swayed me to get a HL55vn from you in the next month or two?

Care to comment on why you think people are going with the HL55vn over the HC90vn?

I think people like the HL55vn more for the following reasons:

Cheaper
Fenix Brand
Lighter
Most people don't like color LEDs
Brighter
Less accidental activation
Much less parasitic drain
More reliable

The HL55vn is an awesome headlamp and it really doesn't have any real negatives. The only thing I dislike is the turbo mode is only for 30 seconds and then the light turns off instead of dropping down to high. The light will run on high without becoming uncomfortable until the voltage drops.
