mobile1, yes I thought the rods were one piece all the way actually, so I'm guessing that they end up finished differently at the front as a result of the assembly process or do they just look like that in the photos? Don't be mistaken, I think they still look great!

Great pics by both Amorphous & Stillphoto (once again living up to his name). I hope I can find the time to make some nice photos that this light deserves.

Free, maybe you could ask *ChocolateLab33 if she can make some of her beautiful custom-made leather holsters for it.

Question...would it be possible to do these in bronze, aluminum, or some other alloy rather than only in steel or titanium? :-) Or perhaps mixing metals in one light for looks purposes (bronze discs/steel rods for example) or something like that?

Flashlight - Thanks. The lighting of the Gatlight gives the impression that the rods are sectionalized and of different material or finish; its all optical illusion.

The Titanium version is great, and I am sure Walter is cooking up some great enhancements for the next version. This is like buying works from Pablo Picasso or Eugène Grasset before they were famous. It's a good idea to sign up for the second run.

I think GadgetGirl makes awesome custom leather pouches.

OK ALL first round lights shipped today. We'll open sign up for round two soon.

Generally we can make the GatLight any material (or combination of materials) we want - as long as most agree.

Most people who got the stainless are very happy with it - it feels nice and solid. The same with the TIs. TI is very expensive though and the price is going through the roof... so the TI version will cost more.

The most requested material other then what we did this first run in is probably alluminum.... So we are currently planning to build a couple of AL prototypes to see whether they would be strong enough (and also to test some minor design improvements). With AL we would need some anodize... lots of choices here...

What would you like to see in terms of materials/anodize/colors? (something that others would want as well - that could find a majority)?

Stainless for me. While heavier, it provides a great level of solidity in the hand. I have the 123 in stainless and while it is not light, I do not find that either one of these two---123 and Pila are intended to be a pocket light so, the weight poses no problem.

How about some type of colored fiber optic rods ( not all ) that get the light from the from the top.....so it looks like there glowing.

Some creative materials - isn't Tungsten almost black and really heavy? One of the reason why in the last run Titanium was so expensive is because it's so hard to machine - so Tungsten is probably multiple time more then TI...

We still need to do some tests with Alluminum - but I think the next cpf run we'll probably offer Alluminum (123), Stainless (123), Stainless (PILA). I'll email the details for sign up to everyone who sent me an email to mobile1 at gmx .ch - in the next couple of days. (I'll send the email to everyone in the first run as well).

Regarding the Titanium versions - we need to get some quotes for that - but it's likely to be in the $400 range (sorry but the price of TI went through the roof with the war and Boeing and Airbus needing lots of it for their large jets (according to McGizmo))

Regarding optical rods - would love such an idea, but they wouldn't be strong enough. Especially for the PILA version, we probably can't even use Alluminum for the PILA.

Have a quick question though. Are the R123 supplied are protected? If not at what discharge voltage are they ruined?

Been running this light for a while and it is smoother operating than a swiss watch. Does not get hot or dim. Neat.

Nikola Tesla - nice photo..... my watch is an Omega as well. The number of parts in the GatLight is pretty close to the number of parts you find in your average Swiss watch.... (not the fancy ones though)

Since all the lights have shipped - we have opened sign up for round two.
All information regarding GATLIGHT SIGN UP ROUND 2 is HERE - and it probably makes sense if we move all GatLight discussions over there.

We have lots to discuss there - like what anodize you all would like to see on the Aluminum version of the GatLight....
Also feel free to post pictures, photos in that thread (or upload them to the ftp I provided in the GatLight manua - for your chance to win a ROUND 3 GATLIGHT...for the best photo)
