Why is it acceptable to have a loud clicky in a 'tactical' light?

What if the bad guy is hiding in a closet, or other small area where the light does not penetrate? But let's assume the bad guy can still hear the clicky. This is a very bad situation.

But I am waiting to be enlightened. :ironic: Hopefully, a LEO or military person will chime in here.

Hehe, that was my thinking. Kinda like the sound of someone cocking a shotgun...when you hear it, it's time to run OR get your hands up in the air "and act like you don't care"

Uhhhhh OK?:ohgeez:
My time in the Army doesn't count so are you waiting for a Ranger to stop in or SWAT team guys?

It counts with me so a quick question...would you ever have need of or want to use blinky modes in a tactical situation?

According to 4sevens, yes:

You wouldn't believe how many LEO have asked for strobe. They actually use it for intimidation and disorientation purposes. It would have be easy to not include it, but it would cut out a serious portion of the market. There is a reason why Max and Stobe was put as primary and secondary. Those are the most likely used modes AND they can be selected without turning the light on. (tighten and immediate loosen)

"Clearing" is not about "Stealth"

It is an aggressive defense.

Noise is often good, Perps run, and the ones that do not you defend against.

Nobody so call "clears" a building by themselves.

surround and wait for SWAT

O.K. ... Super Sport
I thought you'd know this .... so I didn't go into it ........

But how's this for an answer .............

A truly Tactical light should have a forward momentary / clicky switch , which allows you to lightly press for light in Tactical situations without the click . Some Tactical lights have forward momentary switches ONLY ( no click ) and have to be twisted for constant light operation.

Is that a better answer to your question ..... I hope .

P.S. > Also ... some tactical lights mounted to weapons have an optional tail cap with a wire going to the grip of the gun to a pressure switch which allows momentary activation only when you squeeze it .

TMG :) :naughty:

Ugh, no. You've simply stated the obvious. And since you've done it with 'sarcasm' (as referenced in above post), well then, you know my response..... :nana:

And regarding 'tactical lights mounted to weapons', I already have a pressure-switch activated light mounted on my Mossie 500.............

At least you got the "Super Sport" part right, lol.

I do NOT agree ..........

It IS about "Stealth" .... until you are ready to fire .

And sometimes you MAY have to "clear" areas on your route to your other family members to protect them .... such as children in distant bedrooms .

Otherwise , baracade yourself in a room , turn off the lights , call the police , and concentrate on protecting that one entrance to you until police get there.

Don't go looking for a confrontation if you don't have to. Let the BAD guys come to you where you have the element of supprise and a hidden position.

If that door opens - be sure it's a bad guy - BEFORE you fire by mistake .

SEARCHING for trouble is a BAD idea . If the Police arrive and send in the dogs to clear .... you want to be behind a locked door !

It was NOT intended with 'sarcasm' ... as you say .

I was attempting to properly and thoroughly answer your question.

Now you're being "SS" ...... Super Snotty .

P.S. > If you already knew what I stated as the "obvious".... then why'd you ask to start with ?

And now you've admitted you knew the answer all along .... if you knew the obvious.

Bye the way ..............

I don't worry much about light switch clicks ..............

If he's still around after hearing me "rack the slide" and chambering a round in my Ithaca Model 37 , Riot shotgun .........

The next sound he hears won't be a light clicky

That is what I was going to say. I just mask any flashlight clicks with the sound of the Mossberg chambering a round. Trust me, he won't notice the flashlight noise.

if your perp hears your clicker on your flashlight then im guessing you're waaay too close to each other already. At that distance i think he can hear you breathe also hehehe

Tactical? Golly. When 'tactical' I have only 2 modes:

1. No Light
2. Momentary Light

Some believe in (and use) the strobe function. To each his own, this has been strongly debated. I do not find the strobe disorienting. And I have tried many many times with many models on myself. Strobe doesn't disorient me anymore than constant light does. Maybe it works for some. I respect their opinion.

To summarise, the 'click' you here doesn't come into play in a real 'tactical' situation. Never.

Because the amount of switch travel between momentary and constant-on is so slight, that it's very difficult to use the momentary w/out accidental activation?
