Don't listen to these guys too closely, otherwise you may end up with lighting hardware hanging out of every nook and crevase you have.
I have no need for a batton/trunchion thing and find that the ARC AAA fits easily into the back pocket with the wallet, and rests on the bedside table at night.
A short length of cord with a few large knots in it serves to prevent it rolling and can act as a low stand.
For a cheaper option the Infinity AA may suit, but I prefer the brightness of the ARC AAA.
Batteries leaking or going flat are a maintainence issue, I always have a spare on hand, and the soft bright light of a white LED for night adjusted eyes is much better than a globe and lasts longer.
You could go for a Photon type light but the cost of running it if you use it a lot would be too high.
For you other guys, as a caver I do have a small arsenal of lighting, but I'm not so paranoid I need to carry it arround with me all the time.
