Ikea Ladda, Duracell, or what NiMH?

Good afternoon all,

I just found another Eveready Captain flashlight in a thrift store, it's not in quite as amazing condition as the other one I have but I'd call it "near mint" and I also did not have to do any cleaning on this one, it just works. So I've got another Nite Ize bulb sitting in my Amazon cart, and I still have a stash of AA to D cell adapters. Difficulty: I stopped at Ikea on my way home and there must have been 150 people in line waiting to check out, no joke, I'm not doing that for two packs of batteries OR... am I? I get home and I find that a) my Ikea now charges a $5 fee for click and collect, so it's so not worth it for the Laddas if I'm not buying anything else at the same time. I actually need some USB cords but it looks like they are out of the ones that I would (A to C). Also, I was going to order some AAAs as well, it seems that the 900s have been discontinued and they only sell 750s now? sheesh... looks like Home Depot sells Duracell for $12.28/4 with free shipping (doesn't look like they have them at my local store), is there a better deal out there now? Or should I just pack a lunch and go back to Ikea and deal?

costco has energizer branded Japanese eneloops - 6 AA's, 4 AAA's with a Chinese quick charger. The charger is too fast for everyday use but it is not a bad deal.

I think I bought my Eneloops on ebay the last time I needed them. Might find a good price there. Usually the nasty river website has them too if you get in a pinch.

Order them online and have them shipped. Pay the delivery fee and you'll be all set.

I'm just trying to find if there are any good deals out there for less than $3/cell, but there don't seem to be any. The Laddas used to be great because they were less than $2/cell.

With current inflation levels there are no more deals. You're better off buying quality, which means Eneloops, then at least you have good odds on performance and longevity.

I went to Ikea for the first time in seven years yesterday to pick up Ladda AAA (750mAh) and AA (1900mAh) and AA (2450mAh).

Going to Ikea is like an epic journey to Crete and the Mythical Labyrinth of the Minotaur. I did get lost early on in my adventure, as I was lured into an upper level of the maze by a magical moving staircase, but fortune prevailed and I found my first treasures (the AA versions) in the land of mythical beasts (toy section near the stuffed dinosaurs). At this point I could have made a hasty retreat, but I still wanted the AAA's. I avoided the Minotaur by unraveling a ball of thread and paying closer attention to the map and taking the shortcuts between sections. I found the full selection in the lighting section, and also saw 1900's (only) near one of the several checkouts.

Like Theseus I had hidden a dagger under my tunic, but didn't need it as the Ladda's are packaged in cardboard, not that invincible clam shell stuff. Still made in JAPAN! Which is good to see.

Only one person ahead of me in line, and the self checkouts had no line. No bags available unless you paid a dollar for a reusable one, so bring a bag.

I didn't escape completely unscathed though, as I brought my girlfriend on the adventure and my bill mysteriously doubled at the checkout with the addition of several magical pink flowers that never fade and need no water. I knew I should have left her on the island of Naxos.

the wife asked me to drive her to IKEA, so while waiting in line for the self-checkout I just spotted a bunch of these LADDA batteries, and curiously I picked one up, checked the package..."Made in Japan". F... yeah, in the cart you go baby!

So I don't know what or where I'll be using these, probably my omnivore Malkoff MD3, but for $7.55 these are very reasonably priced I think.

That's some pretty good news. I thought the LADDA-loops were done, and they were all Chinese now. I have a battery crusher that I can't use Eneloops with that is getting new cells. Thank you for posting, fulee9999!

I have been using these for a while now and I don't know if I got a bad batch or just bad luck. I saw they are made in Japan and I bought 5 packs of these over the course of a year (not all at once) and they all under perform compared to my Eneloop X's I got from Japan in 2017.

I use them in my label maker and shaver and it's very noticeable in how much shorter these last in between charges compared to the X's.

Which ones did you buy?
The 1900 will have a shorter runtime. But much better shelf and cycle life.
I have lots of both and they all exceed minimum spec.
Btw sign up for ikea family and watch.
The laddas go on sale periodically.
Shippng for 20 packs was like $6.
Westchester store is 20 miles or so from here.
Be advised they have an idiot in the shipping department there.
20 packs thrown into a 14x14x12 box loose.

So; are the 1900mAh AA's low self-discharge (a la Eneloop) but the 2450's are not?

Interesting, though I'm still using up older green/silver 2000mAh AA LADDA's which are holding up OK. Time for a trip to Ikea anyway to check their lighting section, sometimes get some LED bulb deals.

Just noticed the very low charge rate on those LADDA (post #14). Most of my cells are Eneloop or Duracell and didn't notice that specified. I am always charging a lot higher than that. It would take forever at 250mA charger setting.

My assumption is that that is charging protocol if you have a dumb charger, you just set a timer for 16 hours and then remove the cells. I have been treating them like any other NiMH and charging them at 1000mA on my C9000 with no obvious issues.
