I would rather see someone invest in some high grade tritium night sights such as Trijicon HDs and spend their time training to accurately hit the target successfully

I have those, great for a range, but in real situation i do not think I'll have a chance to use them, especially since i wear glasses, and there is a good chance they will be knocked off. I've learned a special technique, I keep my index finger on the frame in "safe" position, and use middle finger to pull the trigger, it is much easier to point a gun in a right place, if you have no chance to use the sights, basically where you point the finger is where you point the gun. you have more control especially for a follow up shot, if you need it.

oh yes, if you can that is.
In my ccw class instructor told us of a real case, where a 60+ year old man was attacked by 2 teenage girls, on a train platform, they broke one of his eye sockets, pushed him down the train platform stairs, kicked him in the head and body, his eyes were swollen shut, he was bleeding all over the face, he still manage to shot both, in his condition, one died the other is in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

Firearms talk gets people a bit edgy and defensive, no pun intended.
I know of guys who swear to only use ammo/barrels that are in inch measurement.

Like a .45 ~ .357 ~ .450 bushmaster etc.. nothing else!
The thought of it typing just now, just makes me chuckle a bit.

A little more information - The light is BNIB and would be for inside-the-home defense only. A scenario I doubt will ever present itself. The price is $70, so it's hard to pass up. The intended weapon, an XD .45, is already equipped with a laser that I purchased when I started wearing glasses.

I'd appreciate some advice/opinions on the Olight Baldr IR. There's one being offered on Facebook.

The IR option is a gimmick, in my opinion. But I do like the rest of the light. Especially how it's activated. Reminds me of the switches on the older Inova weapon (handgun) lights. Good luck tracking down those nowadays! So, overall the Olight is a good option. Though on a compact pistol, with the bezel extending beyond the muzzle, not the best combo. With this light's output, it's best for outdoor use.

Do yourself a favor and don't put an olight on a weapon that can potentially save your life. When your life can be at risk, get the best. Surefire X300, Modlite, Cloud Defense, or Streamlight for a less expensive option. Don't need any of that laser garbage either

I hear so many different ways. I always shoot both eyes open. No matter the firearm. For me anyhow knowing my dominant eye since I been shooting all my life, it's just quick and now my field of vision is increased a lot for follow up shots on next target. Some people may be different and may not work for them.

What's your opinion on why it's a bad idea?

I've always thought that as well. Well, not always but after reading some and listening to some it seems the Olight has had some reliability issues not related to how many rounds it had been subjected to but something as simple as the on/off switch being an issue.

Really just depends on natural ability, the amount of practice and whether you shoot eye-dominant.

I've trained with a world champion IDPA and IPSC that had to tape her cross-dominant eye so she could keep both eyes open.
I've trained with other world champions in same disciplines that shoot eye-dominant and do not need to use tape or shoot with a closed eye.

My wife is an elite handgunner and from day 1 she could naturally shoot with both eyes open.
When my volume is high enough I can shoot with both eyes open without a time or accuracy penalty.

If you're just a person that doesn't train, wakes up at 2am, and needs to stand still and defend against something that is also standing still....then yea closing one eye will be just fine. Or if you are cross-eye dominate and refuse to change positions or train high volume then it's best to close one eye.

One benefit to a red dot is it should allow one to more easily shoot with both eyes open.
With irons I find that a blacked out rear is far easer than dots. I see too many dots when the rear sight is dotted.

If you have a light that a Thyrm Switchback fits on then it's a high-effective $20 solution.
