Has anyone come across any information on the newly released 12 volt 100 watt rated metal halide bulbs?
(no - I am not getting confused with "halogen" at all. This is indeed a full blown 100w HID kit - we are talking about a lotta light here!)

From what I've heard - rumour of a rumour, some bloke in Melbourne (Asutralia) is testing these kits (Roughly AU$1100.00) and apparently are pretty sweet.... This bloke isn't giving much away about where he is obtaining the kits.

I can't answer directly, but one thing I know for sure:

If he/she is selling them or there is a profit to be made, MONEY TALKS. Loud and clear.

There would likely be several of us FH's ready and willing to be irrational with our filthy lucre IF we only knew the details of said 100W HID.

That's my bait. We all know that ton's of lumens attract more than insects on this Forum!!

Let's see if this helps.

I fooled around with a 70w 12v metal halide bulb/ballast a couple of years ago, but while good in a flood application, it was useless in a spot of any reasonable size. The capsule was grape sized and as a result would have needed a huge reflector to focus (i.e. couple of feet across at least). It also took a couple of minutes to warm up. High wattage HIDs with lower voltage ballasts have been around for a long time (there is a type used in portable video lighting systems), but their usefulness depends entirely on your application.

 Now I have this image of a grape in the flashlight! I love your imagery. Still, it would be fun to tinker with one.
