I have a havis shields 35w 12v handheld spotlight, I purchased it from Pyramid Tech as their 2035 model, have had it 1.5 years or so, used less than half a dozen times.
My son and I went fishing the other night and the switch was stuck in the in position and the light did not work. I took the light apart and replaced the switch (it was melted on the backside), but now when switched on the wires from the battery to the light get real hot and the light does not come on.
Is there a chance the ballast just went out on its own? My 8-year old son is who hooked it up to the battery while I was parking the truck....he was sitting in the boat, and there is a possibility he hooked it up wrong (I removed the cigarette lighter plug and replaced with red and black colored alligator clips. He may have hooked it up backwards and caused this?
My other question: If I get this light repaired or replace it, is there a way to prevent this again, i.e. reverse polarity protection? Maybe with a diode?
Thanks
Waylan
