If I put a high amp drop-in in here, will the switch support the amperage. Is the switch a standard McClicky, or your upgraded McClicky?
Standard installed McClicky switch works well with mid range current.

Old version of black tail caps can take FETtie (for high current) and available here.[/size]

Fivemega - any trick to changing the boot cap? The switch is screwed on REALLY tight.

I am ready to follow your instructions on how to order. I have read the whole thread. I cannot tell if any more are available and I am sure that is my fault. Please let me know if another black host is available.

Re: (2) D26 Copper 1x26650 Host From FIVEMEGA

1) Does anyone know if this 26650 copper host has the same main body diameter as the previous 26650 all-aluminum host? They are both described as 32mm diameter but the newer copper host seems larger - according to the pictures.

2) Why is "D26" in the title? Doesn't the head size decide if the drop-in will be a D26 or D36?
For example, if an LF Mini-turbo head with C threads is attached, a D36 drop-in will be used. Am I missing something here? Probably.

3) Does this copper host dissipate heat better than the previous one-piece aluminum D36 host with head attached?

4) For owners of this copper host, how do you like it? Does it dissipate heat well?

5) Anyone using an LF mini-turbo head on this copper host? Can you post a picture?

Thanks.

Re: (2) D26 Copper 1x26650 Host From FIVEMEGA

I will try to get a picture of this copper host and a D36 LF mini turbo head up tonight. I have no idea if the host dissipates heat better than the older hosts because I never have my lights on more than 1-2 minutes. It is quite a bit heavier though and I would imagine that with the copper insert, it would dissipate the heat more evenly to the body and then your hand would act as an active cooler.

I believe the main body is teh same diameter but it is the head part where the head screws onto the body that is slightly wider. My LF mini turbo heads looked like they belonged on the older 26650 bodies where as they look a little off on these bodies because the collar that the head screws up agains is slightly wider on these bodies and you can see part of the copper insert when using the LF mini turbo head. I will check the diameter of the two bodies tonight and let you know.

I believe the D26 denotes if it is for a D26 or D36 drop-in. I also believe the LF mini turbo head is the only head that has C threads and uses a D36 drop-in so I would not call it common like a normal P/ C or M3 type head.

Re: (2) D26 Copper 1x26650 Host From FIVEMEGA

I noticed it definitely dissipates heat evenly. I left the light on for quite a few minutes, came and touched it. The entire body was felt almost as hot as the head including the tail cap. I couldn't touch the tail cap for more than a fraction of a second without it burning me.

Never noticed this with the previous 1x26650 hosts.

Thanks for the replies guys. I appreciate it.

QtrHorse,
I just saw post #27 of this thread which definitely shows that the copper host is a lot thicker than the previous non-copper host. The tailcaps are switched in the photo but other than that, the diameter differences of the copper vs. non-copper host is significant.

But I will wait for your measurements. Thanks for your input which will help me decide some things when FM does a second run.

swrdply400mrelay,
What type of drop-in are you running to get the tailcap hot after 2 minutes? Or does the hot tailcap show that the clicky is being pushed to the max in regards to current flow through it? In any case, your experience seems to suggest that the copper insert works as advertised. Impressive.
