(first post i believe so hello CPF)

I have 2D incandescent m@g. After lots of searching around the forum I have come across 2 "drop-in" options. Either the TLE-6EXB or a Malkoff. I have decided on the 140lm TerraLux for this mod.

So from what I can see this sucker get's hot and dimms the light and can even turn it blue. I want to know if I need a different reflector and/or lens (glass)? I know incandescent mods require new lens and reflector, but do I need to do that for a LED?

I want to build my own heatsink if I can. Something copper to help disperse some of that heat. Any ideas? Is this possible? Can you buy a heatsink for a TLE-6EXB? ( I wonder if you can even get anything in there since the head moves when you focus? )

Also I am going to go for 3C cells in the 2D. I wonder exactly what I should use to hold the batteries in place? PVC? or maybe metal? more copper?

Or should I try a converter and fill it full of AA batteries?

OK so here's what I need from you experts:

1. Lens / Reflector ?
2. Heatsink for TLE-6EXB ? (custom built or buy)
3. 3C cells and what to space them with?

thanks for moving thread

So nobody has any ideas for me at this point? huh...

Seriously, Forget about the Terralux, Get a "malkoff" or if you are ok with mods get a proper heatsink from someone like H22a and build your own "malkoff" with a xp-g from cutters and DD that sucker with good Ni-mh cells. You will never really get the Terralux to NOT have heat issues. Welcome to CPF:welcome:

Couldnt agree more.
Yes, the Malkoff is more expensive but it is the best Mag dropin you can buy.

For best results get an UCL lens from Flashlightlens.com. You want the
52.1mm x 1.9mm size.

You can use the stock Mag reflector with a Malkoff, but you need to cut off
the cam. Malkoff has a "how to" on his site.
Alternatively a metal OP (Orange peel) reflector can be used. This will
smooth out the beam but reduce output slightly. These are available from
Britelumens or KD. Not sure but I think member Fivemega has some as well.

Use PVC pipe to sleeve your C cells in your Mag D

what malkoff??? the ones that are sold out since new year??
btw tle 300 is brighter than malkoff xp-g. pbly 2x as bright.
too bad malkoff doesn't make p7 drop ins anymore.
it is possible to run tle300 in 2d mag, i do it, i have 6aa fm holder stuffed with lithium's aa. tle 300 is pbly brightest mag drop in for the price, that you can buy right now.

really?? you might be right about TLE-6EXB, i never had one of those, but i still doubt, seeing how my tiny (compared to TLE-6EXB) everled diamond drop in, has no heat issues what so ever, neither does luxeon mag drop in, neither does tle5ex, all of them have a lot smaller heat sinks.
and guess what, tle 300 doesn't have any heat issues either.
