OK, the first set has been successfully auctioned and shipped. Looking forward to some posts from the people who won.

Here's what a complete set looks like:

red_green_blue-green_nichias_large.jpg

Here's the second set of auctions just started. Each auction is for one (1) light only:

Arc-AAA Blue-Green LED

Arc-AAA Green LED

Arc-AAA Red LED

Good luck!

I just received my prototype Blue-Green (B-G) Arc AAA from the first auction and did a quick side by side comparing this new light with an Arc Snow and with the DS. Very, very subjective, but here it is: The beam size and beam pattern of the B-G and DS are nearly identical. The B-G has a smaller hot spot than the snow, but about the same size as the DS. It has as large a corona and as much spill as the DS, both of which are much larger than on the Snow. Somewhat surprising to me, the outer edge of the spill is very sharply defined, more so than on any other Arc I still have. In terms of total output the B-G is REALLY BRIGHT, seemingly about as bright (at least at close range) as the DS. When I compared them outside in the dark a few minutes ago I was very impressed at just how bright this sucker is - much brighter than I had expected. I was warned that the LED on this prototype was off-center, and it is. The B-G also has rings more pronounced than I've seen on any other Arc. At first glance I don't like them but have not yet used this light enough to form any opinion about their effect on overall performance. It also has some sort of artifact or defect in the corona but looking very closely I think this may just be incident to the off-centered LED. But these negative comments should be put into perspective. THESE ARE EARLY PROTOTYPES AND NOT PRODUCTION LIGHTS. I've never used any colored LED enough to form an opinion about the usefulness of this particular color. Incidentally, when I picked this light up from Arc today, I had a very brief opportunity to compare this new B-G with a prototype Green. The tint of my B-G has a good deal more blue than the photo above, and it is really, really brilliant and beautiful. The Green was also bright and seemed to be of a somewhat deeper tint than appears in the photo. In short, there is a very considerable difference between the two tints, the contrast appearing to me to be greater than the photo shows. These tints ought to please anyone who likes colored LED's. The battery tube and head, of course, are pure Arc. Perfect. To sum it all up, I like this new Arc a lot, as will anyone who has ever dreamed of a brightly colored light built the way Arc builds lights.

Did you see the red led ARC when you where there?

Any comments on that one?

Yes, I saw the red very briefly. The tint struck me as being very, very nice (fairly deep and pure red with no trace of orange or blue or whatever) and it is bright - beyond that I can say little since I have no experience with red LED's and had no way to compare it to what might be wanted or expected. I recall that it was probably about as bright as the Green, but dimmer than the Blue-Green.

p.s. I liked it enough that I will be bidding.

Peter:
I expect the green AAA's arrive after I won the bid and then give my comment, but unfortunately till now I did not receive yet.
Would you please check and confirm?

I vote for some production already. Ebay is the worst way to judge demand for this product, IMHO. You *know* there is demand just from people here on CPF. Make some and judge demand by how quickly you sell out. Or are you trying to judge demand of these three color options?

Peter, although most of the people that look at those listings are from here, I think you should add that they're being sold by the manufacturer. That is not clear in the description.

eBay is loaded with items that claim they're under warranty but are actually not warranted because the seller isn't an authorized dealer.

I want a red arc bad.... but the bidding war and price (the current one is over $60!!!!!!)of the light in the past two auctions are too much.

I really hope this becomes a production piece so I can just buy one

However, this doesnt mean I wont attempt again on the third auction

I put in a bid on the green/blue a few days ago but I got sniped and lost. :mecry:Oh well, I'll try again on the next one.
:poof:

I think it should be obvious that the RED needs to be a production item.... probably the blue/green too.
Why does the DS cost so much more than the CS? The only change is the LED... right? Is there really that much difference in price between the 2 LEDs from Nichia? LED prices are actually falling at a good clip. Just currious.

 My humblest apologies for that, sunspot. it was me.

It's always been my way to bid at the last minute on Ebay. Too many times of bidding and losing right at the end. :(

I hope you are more successful next time. :twothumbs

I noticed the blue/green went for a cheaper price this time.

I'll post pics when I get it.

Wow...very fast shipping.

1 x ARC AAA Blue/Green auction won on the 9th - delivered in London U.K. on the 13th. Over a weekend too!!!:party::party:

First impressions are very favourable. I like it!! Very bright and a lovely turquoise colour overall. More floody than my white ARC AAA - P CS.

I know I'm biased but it's great!

Pix to follow in a day or so.

Ok.

ARC AAA Blue/Green.

First impressions:
Slightly lighter colour anodising on tube, compared with my newest CS AAA-P. Also a few more nicks and flashing to the head and around the top of the tube - not bad, just not production model perfection - observation not complaint.

The light it emits is a glorious cyan - ever so slightly more blue than green - and very bright. Much wider flood than the CS, and better definition too.

Clip, split ring and Duracell Coppertop as usual.

PIX!!!

In conclusion, a bright, pleasing piece of work that will replace my white CS on my keychain.

Nice one Gransee!!

Wow those pics are nice, thanks for sharing. I hope one of the owners that outbid me on the red led arc can post some beamshots. I hope the red led becomes a regular production item.

Lucky, I am still waiting for my green to arrive here in the states. :sick2:

Good pictures, though. Whenever my green Arc shows up I'll try to get some pics comparing the green to my normal Arc-P DS. And maybe Kroma Milspec green (the only other green light I have).

You guys with the green and cyan light, what will you use the colored led for? I know the red is for night adapted eyes, but what are the other colors for?

Personally, I work on a pretty random range of equipment that can have a rats nest of hydraulic lines and wiring harnesses. When things are dirty, wet, and dark, colored light has helped me track down specific colored wires or fluid leaks easier than white light.

Also, they are fun.

I have heard green light causes less disturbance to actual night vision devices, but I'm not in the military so I really can't say firsthand if it's true or not.

Sheesh, I don't know. You certainly can't use it for retaining night vision, although it's not as bad at that as blue or white light. But it is very, very pretty!

Also, good for depth perception and for hill-walking?

Lighting up green things?

Just because I like Cyan??

Because it's there???

I like red too... :tinfoil: :nana: :poke: :welcome:

I have no idea just what I will use my Blue-Green for. But it will no doubt be used mostly for play, I suppose, since I've got a 5 1/2 year old little girl here who really, truly, loves to shine it at dolls and toys. You could say that this one will sort of run interference for the DS on my keychain.
