I recently came across some information regarding holographic DVD's. They're supposed to come out next year, with a capacity of 300GB (up to 3.9 TB) and data transfer rates of around 20MB/s. According to the info, it'll use a green or blue laser for storing data (depends on whose technology is used), and a red one for aligning the servos.
here are some links where you can see for yourselves:
the definition from wikipedia
InPhase Technologies description of it's next drive
and optware's description of its technology
I wonder how much will these drives cost, and how powerful will the lasers be? oh well, we'll see :naughty:
