I was looking at the Olight M20 Titanium Warrior LED Flashlight 500 Lumen 2xCR123A with Luminus SST-50 White PhlatLight LED as an example (really like the titanium). Looking for 500 lumens or greater (edited)

I think I would prefer a floodier light for my first light of this output level, but eventually I would like a thrower as well, so I'll take suggestions on both!

Need a few suggestions on what people like, and why, to help me focus my search.

Thanks!

You can edit the title. "edit" and then click "Go advanced"

The ThruNite Catapult is a thrower with lots of output.

By floodier you mean a wide hotspot right? It annoys me when people call the spill light flood, because then it is confusing to read that a thrower has good flood.

The Olight M20 with the SST-50 might work for you.

Re: 500 or greater recommendations

It sounds too good to be true that Olight Titanium will provide 500 lumens during more than an hour as claimed using only two CR123. Never before heard about such an efficiency. It would rival other lights using 4 CR123 cells. It is really true?

Regards, Patric

Re: 500 or greater recommendations

i'm almost certain it can't sustain 500 lumens for an hour, they prob count the time when it falls out of regulation.

i had a regulated nailbender MCE P60 module, on 2xCR123 i'd say it ran high 30 mins before the driver would only run medium

Re: 500 or greater recommendations

A friend of mine just got a Ti M20 I had a chance to play around with it and it certainly isn't 500 lumens more like 350-400 but it is a very nice light with alot of bright flood.

Re: 500 or greater recommendations

A good MC-E or P7 light could work too. You can always get a diffuser for a more floody beam.

Ahah! moment. Title edited, thanks.

I guess by flood I just mean throws a lot of light in a pretty wide pattern, so you can see a lot of what is directly in front of you, versus a dedicated thrower, where when I look at the beam shots on this forum, it looks like a band of light landing on a far away object, with less dramatic effect directly in front of the observer. But I may be using the terms wrong, being a noob. If I can get the best of both worlds, eg with a diffuser or something, as mentioned above, that'd work too.:twothumbs (<--- need one of these guys with only one thumb and less of a s***eating grin, this one is over the top)

I would like something that takes an 18650.

The Jetbeam M1X is an excellent thrower. As for a floodier beam you can get an Eagletac M2C4, Olight M30 which both come with a diffuser. Or even a Tiablo Ace-G.

For a high output thrower, I highly recommend the Thor X Sirius 9 watt rechargeable LED spotlight. It now uses CREE XR-E emitters instead of Luxeon, so I estimate it should be in the 400-500 lumen range. It has a pretty tight beam for being a multi-reflectored LED light and should have a throw of around 300 yards. It is very small and lightweight, unlike the larger "Coleman 530 lumen LED spotlight" which I would not recommend.

For a bright, floody light, look at shiningbeam's MG PLI. Runs on a single 18650, so don't expect to run it for very long on high, but I imagine it'd go for hours on either of the lower settings.

Similarly, for a thrower, look at the MG RX-1. I believe the PLI and RX-1 use the same driver and emitter, but have different reflectors. Both run off a single 18650.

Nobody mentions the Malkoff Wildcat?? What's wrong with CPF these days...

+1
The Wildcat MD3 is actually just a tad taller than a Surefire 6P. Very compact and made by Gene and backed by his #1 customer service. Made in the U.S.A too.

It has throw and a generous amount of spill. This will give you the best of throw and flood combo, but they are out of stock. If you sign up for email notifications you will surely get a chance to purchase when they get back in stock.

The Catapult I got to see this past Friday, well no different than a P7 or MC-E Mag build in output it did however hesitate to work and didn't:sick2:

May I suggest a nailbender SST-50 or SST-90 P60 drop-in in a Surefire 6P or Solarforce L2 host. I have the the 3-mode SST-90 drop-in in a L2 host running 1x18650. You'll need to bore out the 6P to run 1x18650 but there you can send it out to have it done.

My nailbender SST-90 is very bright and very floody. A perfect "wall of light". About as bright as my ROP Hi Mag mod (6xAA Eneloops).

Will that fit in a G2 (which is the only surefire LCD I have)?

.....although I did just recieve my new A2 Aviator, yay!

I am rethinking my approach. I saw a few suggestions for even more powerful lights, and after a bit of googlin', I see the price differences are small (and a lot less $$ then the titanium olight).

A good MC-E or P7 light could work too. You can always get a diffuser for a more floody beam.

So I am now thinking about the Lumapower MVP Turboforce P7, with is 700 lumes-- only thing is the low is still pretty high output on this thing. But I guess that is the tradeoff? The Lumapower seems to fare better in reviews then the Olight M30.

My working decision is on the Lumapower P7, but I am not totally over the coolness factor of the Titanium Olight. It is tempting to me as a combination collector piece/fun powerful light (but not as powerful as these P7's, if I understand correctly). Of course, for sheer power, one can pick up one of these $80 HID spots that I have seen mentioned on this forum (and which I am sure I will eventually, inevitably do).

So, given this apparent shift in my priorities, are there other suggestions in the P7-power range? How does the above mentioned drop-n compare?

Do you mean LED instead of LCD?

The G2 also uses the P60 type module(along with many of the other Surefire lights), so yes, they will fit.

Oh yeh, I did, actually, will edit. Thanks.

Decided to go with a 700 lumen torch instead, so posted another thread for suggestions on lights like the jetbeam and lumapower lights--- I think m1x and mvp p7.
