6P + FM MN + WA1160 + IMR16340 = Wow

Just put together all the new pieces and all I can say is Wow. I used a 6P body and stock twisty tailcap (Z41) coupled to a KT-1 turbohead. Then I plugged in an FM MN adaptor and loaded up two of AW's IMR 16340. That's when the fun stopped. I forgot to order any bi-pin bulbs. I had several WA1160's lying around but never considered them cause they are rated at 5 Volts so I consulted LuxLuthor's Incan Destructive Bulb Tests and figured all I got to loose is a bulb, right?

I don't recommend this setup cause the bulb is way overdriven and the batts are probably working their little butts off which makes things less than safe.

However, this sucker is bright. No, its not brighter than my 6D ROP but its getting closer.

Thank you FM for all your great ideas and torch parts.
Thank you AW for your great batteries.

Runtime is only a few minutes but it is an impressive few minutes. I've not run the batts down below 3.5V yet which helps keep my runtimes short.

Trees are only thirty'ish feet away but both lights go way beyond the trees.

When you consider that it's drawing over 4 amps, literally approaching 10C discharge rate for the cells, it actually makes sense that the cells would sag plenty to prevent insta-flash.. If you are willing you should continue running that configuration for awhile and see how long the bulb lasts... You have probably just discovered the brightest possible configuration on a pair of IMR16340! I'd have to imagine you are approaching 1000 bulb lumen fresh off the charger! Good idea!

We need pics and beamshots. Those turboheads are so sweet. I am really starting to consider what I can sell to buy one.

Last night I took a bunch of beam shots. My first ever. They were unusable. So, now that I know what I want in a beam shot I'll try to do some tonight. I'm also charging the D cells from my 6D ROP and the two Lithium D cells from my 2D 5761. Hoping for some fair comparisons.

As a side note: Last night, while setting up my camera and tripod, a LEO stopped by saying he was there to "investigate suspicious activity". I had found a very dark very long road for my tests. He had never seen anything like it. We hung out and chatted flashlights till he couldn't take anymore tech talk. I was on a roll! Of all the lights I demo'ed he liked a 6P with Malkoff M60 best.

That looks patently absurd, but absurdly fun. I love it! :twothumbs

How much were the parts, if you don't mind me asking?

LOL - excellent! I can just imagine the LEO being given the "CPF information overload" treatment. Very good work on this setup.
