First of all, if this should be in another forum, hopefully I mod will be kind enough to move. Put it here since its specific to a battery...

Anyways, I've been quite suprised to have never seen any (let alone many) mods or lights created for the A23 alkaline battery. Considering how readily available they are, the fact they are TINY (less than half the size of a aaa) and pack a 12V punch. I know alkalines are not the favorite chemistry around here, but with 12V one could run a mini buck board and maybe even power one of these fancy new high powered leds for quite a while in a tiny package... or so one would think!

Internally the A23 is a stack of little button cells. So they can't supply much current and they have a high internal resistance.

I have however seen miniature lights that take a stack of 4 little button cells, so tiny lights are about.

If you've ever seen my avatar you've seen an A23 mod. It has/had six 5mm LEDs in two parallel strings, direct driven with one A23 battery. It was a great keyring torch - 1.1 watts on a new battery and usable light for ages - but I lost it either while visiting someone in hospital or on a possum shooting trip.

I'd never considered using a buck board with an A23. Could be something in that.
