I recently recieved an A2 head from surefire as a exchange for my green one. It seemed really bright. At from eyeballing I guess 20 lumens, definatly a lot more than 3. Also it has the typical GS beam pattern of blue hotspot and yellow corona. Beamshot coming.

I bet your happy you finally got a warranty replacement lol

Your description of the beam sounds about the same as the A2-WH's I've handled. I wouldn't have rated those at 20 lumens, but I wouldn't have rated them at 3, either. 3 may be an acceptable overall rating, just because the different colors have different levels of output (I think it's greenLED's A2 color review that shows that pretty well). But I'd say the "white" LED's are around 10 lumens. I recall my L1 on low (rated at 10 lumens) being just a touch brighter than the A2-WH on low.

Do they have the "rectoval" (rectangular oval) hotspot? Otherwise they could be the DS. A lot of people seem to think that the DS's tint is better and whiter than the GS's, this couldn't be further from the truth. Although the typical GS tint is purple hotspot and yellow spill, my Photon Rex is pretty close to white and I also have a Princeton AMP 3.0 which uses the DS, it's beam is similar to what you described.

The tint on my A2 is very good. Sort of rosey with good red rendering. Can't look at the beam profile of a single led without fiddling with it, don't want to cause surefire any trouble, they're expensive enough already :dedhorse:. Driving my own thread ot but where's a good place to get a rex shipped international?

That would be nice. I'd have to see it to believe it though. The Nichia's in my couple year old A2-WH would probably put out nearly 30 lumens on charged RCR's and around 20 on Primaries.

Turn them on and use the magnifying glass to project an image of the die on the wall, if they are rectangular, it's the GS.
