I recently picked up those new Energizer single led lanterns that take one D cell. I like them, and they seem to be a great way to drain a battery. I would also like to use them to finish off the myriad of AA's my other lights generate. Is there such a thing as an AA to D adapter? Hmm, the lantern has a step up circuit; could I use more than 1AA in there?

Why yes, that would be it! Thanks, louie.

Still wondering about if multiple AA's in this light is do-able.

I used to have a bunch for sale here that I got at a vendors convention type thing. I went last month but didn't see the guy. I sold all that I had and didn't keep none for myself /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

I'm gonna pic up a bunch next time if the same guy is there or maybe I will just order from Thomas Dist. too.

Do these adapters introduce more resistance and thereby inhibit the intended draining, ala version one EL 3 to D adapters?

Thanks, five. I see that their 4 to D holders are wired in parallel. Do you know if they carry series wired ones?

Hi Phaser,

Sorry I'm a little late to the thread.

Here in Oz, we have a bunch of AA to D cell adapters. The most common is the one built by Grandcell, though I have seen another type in an electronics hobby shop. Probably similar to the one Darkzero was selling.

It takes a single AA. That sits in a C adapter which then sits in a D adapter. The C adapter is just a tube that surrounds the AA cell. The D adapter is a tube with a base that increases the length. It is quite robust and I have used it in a variety of devices.

Grandcell probably produces it because they only manufacture and sell AA sized RAMs. IIRC, it is sold in packs of 4 and they have a blister pack that has their AA RAMs as well as the adapter, also in packs of 4.

If anyone wants it, let me know. I don't mind sending it over for cost. More likely though, it is probably available at your local WalMart, KMart or electronics hobby store.

Wow small world. I just looked at the business card and these were the guys who were at the show that I bought them from.

Phaser, I bought some of the 4AA to D adapters but I didn't see any "series" ones but that doesn't necessarily mean he might night have them. I would assume no though. You need to do a lot of modifying the the "parallel ones to make them work in "series" which probably won't be worth it let alone work very well at all. I can post some close up pics of one if you'd like.

I spoke with Aventrade last month and they do NOT have any in series. Parallel only.

darkzero... do their 4AA to D fit in a Mag lite with no cutting?

yes...what fivemega said.

By the way, those Nexcell AA to D/C adapters that Thomas Dist. sells are every bit as quality, (maybe even more so), as the Panasonic ones Aventrade sells and are CHEAPER. The shipping costs are about the same with both companies. If you live in Calif. like I do, you'll save even more buying from Thomas as there's no sales tax, (no, I have nothing to do with Thomas!). Whatever you do, STAY AWAY from those "downsizers" or "upsizers" other folks have talked about here in the past. They're total JUNK! The Nexcells and Panasonic adapters are the only way to go.
