Lack of time is my other reason for not making it myself. My wife and I both work full-time and we have three kids. Not much time for hobbies, except the occasional flashlight mod or backpacking trip.

I guess everyone can't get away with this.

'Frying Squad' Swoops on Drivers in Fuel Scam
Wed Oct 9, 7:43 AM ET

LONDON (Reuters) - A Welsh police team dubbed "the Frying Squad" has been formed to sniff out motorists who fuel their cars with cooking oil from fish and chip shops in a bid to avoid paying high government fuel taxes.

Three Welsh motorists have already been caught and fined for using waste oil from restaurants selling Britain's favorite deep-fried dish, the Times newspaper reported Wednesday.

"I have halved my motoring costs since I started running my Subaru on cooking oil," the paper quoted one of those stopped as saying.

"The car runs just as well and even smells a lot better than diesel."

The drivers were fined 500 pounds ($780) and warned that persistent offenders may face up to seven years in jail.

Hmmm...maybe I am wrong (and if I am somebody will correct me I am sure) but it seems to me that, that is close--but not the same thing--as biofuel. Maybe not though, somone will have the final word on it...not me.

Well, the cooking oil thing is what got my attention ( look back at the first post). Of course Yahoo doesn't always have news of this nature, I also found this.

Mass Yodelling World Record
Tue Oct 8, 9:00 AM ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - A band of 937 yodellers set a new world record for "largest simultaneous yodel" by holding their melody for a full minute, the organizer of the mass concert in southern Germany said on Monday.

Most participants were Germans who had been studying yodelling on training courses for months, but some Swiss yodellers helped out, said Stefanie Stiefenhofer, spokeswoman for the Ravensburger Amusement Park.

As required for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records, the yodellers in the southern German town of Meckenbeuren held their tune for a full minute, she said.

In their effort to beat an existing record of 807 people set earlier this year in Dublin, Stiefenhofer said the yodellers held songbooks in front of them during the Saturday afternoon concert.

She said the yodellers faced Switzerland in homage to its yodelling tradition and mountains, but failed to get an echo. Meckenbeuren is 40 km (25 miles) north of the Swiss border.

"We felt it was important that the record set in Ireland be broken right here in the heart of yodelling country," she said.

I don't mean to get my own thread off topic, I'm just bored.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Excellent. My "gallon equivalent" of electricity costs me about 28c (assuming 25mpg, and gas at $150/gallon). Of course I don't need to *make* my electricity.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">A similar thing has happened in some US states. Can't remember which. But since many road taxes are collected from gasoline tax, the brilliant state governments decided there should be a surcharge on any vehicles that achieved excellent mileage. So in those states, there is a penalty for saving gasoline. All hybrid drivers must pay this "penalty." EV drivers would too, if any EVs existed in those states.

It is a lonely battle that we fight.

So is that "penalty" more or less than the Dodge Viper, Mercedes Benz S600, and sever other cars "Gas Guzzler" tax?

Soon they'll have an "average use" tax...you just watch....

Congratulations. You've been born. Ding! You owe living tax.

Damn. 50mpg cars should be subsidized enough to cost *Half* of any other car... and here they're being taxed. Frigging amazing. Of course I'm going through the same sort of thing with the state of CA - the CPUC has decided that I should be charged a surcharge for electricity even though all my extra is used Off-peak which actually SAVES money for the utility. Nice.
