I have a question about the amc7135 chips that I couldn't quite get an answer for.

I wanted to see how hot my mag would be on full power in my setup:
1xP7
Shiningbeam's MCE/P7 board sku#1217 (8xamc7135 and an atmel pic)
4xC NIMH

And after about ~25min it started to blink the led moderately like on/off/on/off/etc.... then seemed to drop to a lower brightness/output.

Is that thermal heat protection or low battery warning? Another cpf thread said it was too much voltage???

I've had it happen when running a minimally-heatsinked board off only 3xNiMH cells, so I'm sure flashing *can* be down to heat alone.

Thanks for the response. I just got an answer back from Bryan at Shiningbeam.com and he said that it was the "low power" notification. I just tested my light again, and on "high" setting it automatically kicked down to the "low" setting. This board has a low, med, high btw. On medium, it just stays at medium.

I feel that my mag is properly heatsinked. I have a a thick and sizeable copper heatsink in it. The head and area above the switch (where the heatsink sits) does get hot after 20 minutes. I was worried after reading another thread that someones 7135 chip literally slid off the board after a highpower runtime and heat.

When it happened to me (after a few minutes runtime), just using straight 7135s, I'd assumed it was just down to heat.

Possibly the cells I was using for bench-testing were worn-out ones, pulled down to a pretty poor voltage just by a bit extra load?
