I'm looking for a 3AA side-by-side configuration LED light with side clicky. Aluminum - no plastic. No 3AAA. Any suggestions? 4AA side-by-side is getting a bit big but that's ok too. thanks.

The OP is asking for a AA "side-by-side" configuration, so meaning a flashlight that uses a battery carrier (like the smaller 3AAA flashlights). To my knowledge, no one makes one. You can get some custom cut down 1D Mags that you can use a 3AA battery carrier in. I can understand the desire for one as AAs are one of my favorite battery formats. To me a 3AA in regular configuration would be too long of a flashlight and while a 3AA side-by-side configuration would be a little fat, I would mind one myself.

Agreed. Unless its a 6AA configuration. Then I would recommend the Mag mod.
Still, if it where me, I'd stick to 18650 if it where a pocket light.

thanks for your suggestions guys. I looked at some mag mods but they're a bit pricey and the head is a bit big. Would love one though. Saw the amazon light but its larger brother with the same looking head cannot be taken apart for modding according to one reviewer. And as far as tail clickys, I just don't go around holding a light in the cigar-hold or tactical hand-up position when i take out the garbage or go for a walk.

Why are there so many 3AAA side-by-side lights but no 3AA?

Something like this light from Amazon?

I stand corrected. But again I really haven't been looking for a 3AA side-by-side myself. I wouldn't mind having one, but I also haven't been actively looking for one either. That one from LED Wholesalers looks interesting, but not sure I'm willing to dump $28 for it.

3AAA flashlights are about the same size as 2xCR123 flashlights, so that is a prime size for a flashlight to be in. A 3AA side-by-side flashlight would be fat like a Maglite so nowhere near as pocketable as a 3AAA.

The Underwater Kinetics 4xAA Zoom LED is quite slim--much slimmer than Sgtreamlight's 4AA LED offerings.

Thanks for your suggestions. The Uktrafire looks good but is not a side clicky which I really prefer. I looked at UK and princeton tec but decided against plastic.

Why are tail clickies so popular? Do most users really prefer them over side clickies?

D to 2AA cell adapter from DX, and find a 2D cell light? might be the quickest and easiest solution...

I have those adapters and it's true that you get what you pay for. Those adapters work, but they are far from rugged. The rely on thin sheet metal that is bent to put pressure on the batteries. It would've been better had they used springs because the metal can break after time from being bent and rebent over and over again. I gave up on those and bought custom adapters from CPF member mdocod. They're way more expensive, but worth it because of how much better they work.

It might be a little hard to find, but the old Eternalights are 3AA with side clickies, just not what you might expect. They are all plastic bodied, however. I remember when these lights were about as good as they got. Still find my old Derringer to be a useful little light.

Ace,
thanks for giving us your experiences with those carriers. Are the custom carriers by FM and others in series? I know they make the ones that put batteries in parallel but I don't know if they make them to work in series which would make the voltage higher which is better for efficiency and running the newer high power leds.

Turtle,
I did revisit those eternalights recently and went to their site but since they're still using 5mm leds, i decided against them, but thanks for your thoughts nonetheless.
