I went to work on my car for a few minutes and opened the hood and sat my BB down on the ground while I fiddled with something only to catch a whif of smoke in my peripheral vision and looked down to see the "strap" of my Barnburner was over the front lense and had burned or melted by about 1/3rd before I saved it!....... LOL!....

I"m sure since these lights are so bright, some may have had similiar experiences not incurred with most other lights "except maybe larrys steak burner!"

Good thing you never put it in front of your tire or it would have been more than a few minutes.

Sorry, but where is possible to see and to buy a "Barnburner"
Best Regards

Billy the link above on NAW's post is possibly the most concise reading that sums it all up, but if you want to know the skinny, just do a search for barnburner on this forum or google and you will bring up tons of writings.

I bet you could really get a smoke storm started after a few minutes!

I'm reluctant to talk about all the fun things that are possible because of the negative implications and concerns if children were to pick it up.... but because of those very same issues "Billy".. the Barnburner is pretty limited to who it was sold to in order to lessen liability.

One of the most amazing things I still find is how it just seems to make things closer at night!
Even with the 50W, I thought trees i the distance were much farther than they now appear when hitting them with the 75W.

Hello Windy, it's been a while!

You have experienced the effects of the infrared being radiated out the front door of the BB. Some of the M@gmods are famous for setting paper fires in record time with those wavelengths.

My BB has done nothing anti-social and remains my favorite light. The throw and output are simply amazing for a hand-held light. At my age, I need three times the lumens of a 20 year old to see as well==which is why I still would like to find the BB as a regular item from Xevision. In responsible hands it is a valuable item.

So, watch your IR more carefully my friend!!

Right about the IR making the heat... Incandescants are much less efficient and so even more waste is in the form of heat as they are basically an antennea transmitting every frequency in that area, whereas HID is more specific so will be brighter with less heat since its energy is not covering much of the IR area......

However the BB is so stinkin bright "8600 lumens" that the left over IR is still enough to cause problems in the wrong hands.

A good example is Larry's incandescant lights... They are stinking bright for I think about 5 minutes before the battery is depleted!... LOL! but thats enough time to cook a steak!.... or your leg! LOL!

Hi Windy! Sorry I must correct you on the LarryK14 run time. It's 7+ minutes. It's short enough as it is, don't sell it any shorter! :nana:

Sorry about that..... heck thats enough time to cook a couple of eggs to go with your steak!... maybe even heat up a cup of coffee!

:eek:I work at the Fire station and we went on a smoke investigation at about 1 a.m.. The smell was in an area but there was no defined wind so finding the direction it was coming from was difficult. Finally the officer in charge sent several firefighters on foot down the street to try and find it, going house to house without any luck. I was driving the truck and came up with an idea. I pulled out the Barnburner and pointed it up when we could smell the smoke. There it was, the tiny particles in the air, that only light up under intense light. We were able to see which direction it was coming from and I just walked us right to it. No great lifesaving adventure but the firefighters were just happy to find it, put it out, and get back to bed. Everyone has great respect for its power and application capabilties and the danger it poses in the wrong hands.

Wow!.. totally cool!... I was sitting out one night with my son-in-law and it was a crystal clear night with a nice breeze and I shined it up in the air as we sat back in our chairs.
What we thought was crystal clear air became apparent that it was filled with tons of particles... He said.. "you mean we're breathing that!"
I laughed as I'm sure its much worse most of the time.

But even as a laser in the night sky picks up air particles, the BB is bright enough that it exposes whats really in the air and makes you want to go get a mask!... LOL!

Its also fun to find bats and follow them in thier flight or moths flying high in the night sky as they thought they were invisible.

That´s a great story toolboy, nice to see this very fine powerhouse made the night!!

Quite possibly saved a life, since it could have been shrugged off as trash burning and dismissed until too late!

Every fire Dept ought to have one!
