Henry,

I had the opportunity to briefly meet you at SHOT. Your attack mode here will not benefit your start-up with CPF! I think it would be best for you to focus on your products and their marketing rather than setteling grudges! As one of those who finds 2-levels quite sufficient, I will not be buying a a microcontrolled light (period!) (It is no sport to build my own 3-level!) Peter gave us the AAA which is a must have! So far, you have given us nothing other than a few very good caver's lights back when. Refocus, guy!

I'm not one to attack arc but surely if true evidence is involved, they will do the honest thing and change there claim.

Whatever the agreement this is not a good place for a pissing contest. I assume Peter understands that because he has not risen to the bait. My personal feelings aside (and I do have them but will not expound) the users of the forum are subject to agreements between CPF (Shasha) and each other. I understand from her post that Peter and Henry have agreed to certain things and this thread is within the rules. The rest of us should pay attention to what both of them have to contribute here more than use it to air our own feelings or vent or even praise.

Henry seems to do better when he sticks to engineering. He should let his lights do the talking. His posts that stray from pure engineering discussion surprisingly often do his venture more harm than good.

Most people here know that Henry designed the Arc4. He doesn't need to take shots at Arc to convince us that he can produce the next generation light @ HDS; doing so can have no effect except to damage his reputation as a fair competitor.

I don't consider Arc's FAQ claims to be functionally inaccurate, though they may be technically inaccurate. IMO a "headlight" and "flashlight" are two different things. I also don't consider the Action lights to have reached the production and distribution volumes required to have been released "to market".

Henry doesn't seem to be scoring many personal points at CPF. His lights had better be everything he claims, be released on time, and be backed by customer service modeled on Arc's.

Seems like most anywhere I go on this board anymore, someone is telling me what I should or should not say. It's giving me nannyphobia. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

Hi Henry...

A comment from the cheap seats, and from someone who respects everyone involved:

Just focus on the road ahead...don`t bother staring into the rearview mirror.

Best wishes to ALL.

What is the point of this post? I frankly don't know who owns this design /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif But I believe this tailcap design is what Peter was also going to produce, and it's based on the drawing, which was done by Henry and/or Peter.

This really doesn't belong out in public. This is a topic which would have been better resolved w/ a private phone call or email.

As you know, the meaning of words can change over time. Dictionaries are usually the last to catch up. The word, "Flashlight" originally meant any battery powered portable light. They were called "flash" lights because the batteries of the day could only muster a brief flash of light before needing a break. Over the past 100 years, diversity has given us such terms as lanterns, spotlights, headlamps, torches, lamps, etc. When I think of the term "flashlight" now days, it is more specific than originally and now means a "hand held, self contained, battery operated, small to medium sized light".

But if you guys think I should change our claim I will. Instead of, "first single cell, regulated LED flashlight" I could change it to something like, "first single cell, regulated, handheld, LED flashlight", etc. I am fine either way.

This thread also brought out some other topics along the way. Obviously, the issue with Arc and HDS is a controversial one. A little bit of controversy can be good if truth is elevated in the process. However, one of the difficulties we face in this situation is that the details are fairly complicated and not conducive to quick discovery. I am looking for more than "argutainment". If it is argued on the CPF, it is more likely to be argued by those who don't have all the information. I mean really, to make sure truth has the best chance, there needs to be full presentation of documents, testimony, etc. Just like a courtroom. If that is what you want, we can give it a try, but I am just saying it is a lot of work. Another suggestion is that we can take it to the underground if you want.

I will watch this thread. If it looks like it is just devolving into noise, I will lock the thread and encourage that we take it to the CPFU. There is a link at the top of the page for the CPF underground.

Thanks for helping me out.

NO...OK...here I go again posting my opinion...

Peter, the details do not need to be dragged out here unless you or Henry feel that is benefits one or the other to do so and I cannot see how it would.

I think you both have a lot to offer.

It's painful to see the devolvement of what seems to have been once a great relationship both business-wise and personal.

Sometimes business just sucks.

My two kopecks.

This is just my opinion, but this seems to be more word games than a real issue. Even if Henry's right, there are other nits that can be picked, like where would you buy an action light? Does anyone own one? I've heard of them, seen a review of one, but besides that they seem to be pretty much non-existent in this world. If there aren't a large number of action lights in the hands of the hardest-core flashlight users on the planet, then they either aren't that good or they weren't really "selling". Peter, you can do what you want with the wording, but I for one don't care about this "issue". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

I look forward to future lights that both HDS and Arc have to offer. However, threads of this type are such a drag, I almost don't want to log onto the CPF anymore. I hope someone does something before what used to be a wonderful discussion board turns into something very negative which it didn't used to be.

This is just another reason I keep buying from ARC.I ordered a ARC 4 today and this post just confirms that I made the right decision. Not that I had any doubts befor.I have been taught to never talk bad about your compition.I just can't believe this was posted here.Just MHO.
Keep up the great work Peter.

I can't unerstand why everyone gets so upset about Henrys post. If you read the FAQ, you see that Peter specifically requestet comments like this. His FAQ states: "Anyone is welcome to contest these publically posted claims. Innovate instead of litigate."

You see the word "anyone" ? As I understand it, this includes Henry!

Perhaps it would have been better if Henry wrote an email to Peter instead of posting here in the forum, but I can see no indication that these "publically posted claims" shouldn't be adressed "publically".

Just my thoughts...
