Arc/HDS/Novatac?

The search threads are a mess on this topic. Or maybe I'm just blowing this out of proportion?

(I think I have a pretty good idea of what happened between Arc and HDS.)

Can someone explain to me what happened, without the drama, with Novatac and HDS? Who runs each? And most importantly?

If I were to pick up a light from these companies? What would you recommend? None of these companies are mod friendly, correct?
