Are there any mods for the Streamlight Twin Task 2L

I've searched around the forum for a little while but didn't find anything specific so I figured I'd ask. I've picked up what I figured are three samples of various ranges of lights, a Surefire A2, Streamlight Twin Task 2L and a D-Mini. I really like the A2 and D-Mini but I'm not sure about the Streamlight.

As has been mentioned before, it does not focus very well, and the throw could be better for my purposes. I'm wondering if anyone has tried replacing the plastic lens with glass and is there a better reflector available? Streamlight does not sell a smooth reflector so I thought I'd ask here.

I figured I'd try modding the reflector myself, which was interesting but not that useful. I buffed the chrome off and smoothed the texturing that was on it, and then painted it with a metallized chrome paint. I've ended up with an interesting light that has no hot spot but throws a very wide, very soft beam. It would make a great candle but it's not what I had in mind.

Thanks

Randy

Would be nice if the switch could be modded also. I just got the TT L2 yesterday and I hate the switch. First click is xenon, second click LED, third click xenon again, fourth click is off. Crazy. What were they thinking about? I like the size though and it is a good light for my needs around the house and in the car.

Unless the new TT-2 is different than what I have the sequence should be: On - Off - On - Off, with LED or Xenon alternating the Ons. My guess is a miswired switch.

i wish that they would put the cliclie in the rear of the body, not on the head. my freind has a 2x123 twin task and it works like this, click-leds, click-off, click-incandecent, click-off, click-leds, click-off, click-incandecent............

I am presently working on fitting a lighthound cree drop-in into my task light. I'm waiting for some aluminum rod to turn down to mate the drop-in to the light for heat dissapation. I have a few choices to make before finishing but it's looking good so far. I need to source out a glass lens for it to replace the plastic one also.

I'll try to post the results after I've finished. I'm looking at one to two weeks completion at this point.

Someone (I forget whom, maybe McGizmo) did a mod for the Xenergy light (which is similar to the Twin Task 2L, but it has 6 LEDs) where he added a clickie to the tailcap and left the side switch in place. That way, you can have instant on via the tailcap of whatever setting you selected via the side switch.

Keysandslots:

I have the material coming. After it's here I need to make some decisions about how to make the part. The switch is soldered to the circuit board and needs to be shortened and soldered to the drop-in after removing the original spring on the cree. I have most of it finished except the sleeve.

I'll either post here or start a new thread, depending on how it turns out:grin2:

Some have installed a kroll tail switch in the tail cap for better operation. However, this must be precise there is little material after boring and I found the taps too hard to get.

GeorgePaul, I'm okay with the switch, it's odd but no big deal for me. I don't want a throw monster, just something that's a bit more throw and a bit less flood. I have a feeling even a slightly different reflector might help.

Connortn, I'll be watching for your updates. I'm fine with some soldering, drilling, grinding and all that, I just don't have access to a lathe. I don't mind doing the mod myself but I'll be interested to see what new parts you come up with.

Well, I contacted Streamlight on the TT L2's switching sequence and it appears that it has been changed: Here is what a Rep told me....

"This is correct (xenon, led, xenon, off) as the switching was changed based on our customer survey as to how to implement the new switching which is what you have. The older lights switched as the members of candlepowerforum describe. There is no way to convert back."

Regards,
Rob

Did any body here happen to participate in this "survey"? Looks like the new switching sequence is xenon, led, xenon, off. Seems illogical to me. At least you're not left in the dark til you arrive at the off switch. :)

I had one like that as well, if I had known you could get an aftermarket tailcap switch I probably would have just left the front switch on LED mode and used the tailcap switch for on/off. The light didnt have much throw so I sold it.
