My Dad is always constantly waiting for "the next greatest" (TV, computer, receiver, camera, etc) that will take over the market and dominate. Flashlight info overload is now doing the same thing to me, which means in the meantime I don't have ANY of the flashlights that would be great!

The crux of my problem: I've already decided on getting the Jet 1 v3 as opposed to the RRT-0, but I also have enough money to get "the big thrower", and now I can't decide between the Catapult V2 and the older, yet highly regarded Eagle-Tac M2XC4. Dammit! (OK, seriously. . . Thrunite or Eagle Tac?)

The Eagletac's MCE won't out throw the XRE/SST thats in the Catapult...

Would you be getting the Q3 or R2 Eagletac. The R2 still holds it's own in the throw department and either one or any of the M2*** Eagletacs are nice lights, but...

The Catapult is one sexy light.

Performance, beauty and simplicity in one package.

If it were my money I'd go the Catapult V2.

Turning into your parents is inevitable I am sorry to tell you. :sigh:
The only comfort you have with this fact is you get to pass all the dysfunctional behaviour on to your kids :twothumbs

You will never get ahead of the curve with this stuff unless you have endless funds which it sounds like you do not have . Get what you want now and try your best to enjoy it.

But I would also hold off for the latest SST50 M2 coming shortly. Its only another cpl weeks :naughty:

This is very odd.... I seem to be turning into your Dad, too! I did it with watches, with motor-cycles, with computers and now with lights.

I've got the RRT 0, don't know the Jet 1 v3, have a Catapult and Legion II on their way. I like the RRT 0 a lot; the convenience of being able to change modes while holding the light how any normal mortal holds a flashlight is very important to me. Even more important, maybe, is the ability to decide what mode it's going to turn on in (sorry, a horrible sentence but I hope you know what I mean).

There's youtube that shows a whole range of beamshots, all in the same place, of different throwers so you can compare like with like. I was looking for a really tight, long range hotspot with enough spill for my purposes and the Catapult was the best of all those shown..... except for an HID which was way too many moneys.... and probably too big as well.

Good luck with your choice!

I may be going backwards. I started this way with computers and now with lights, but the more I find out the less I want the absolute best latest greatest gadget. What brought me around was objective oriented thinking, "what do I need this to do?" questions like this often quell that urge for the latest and greatest for me at least. The photon freedom may not be the greatest light ever, but I do get my 12 dollars worth almost every night, and if it came down to it I would probably pay 3x that to get it.

Following that premise and since flood in my experience is more useful than throw I would go with the floodier light.

I think I may be worse than my Dad ever was, but not so much with lights any more. I've pretty much stopped feeling guilty about lights having overlapping niches. And, if they're cheap enough, practical value is not always required. Waiting for the next best thing with lights would result in no lights at all if one was always practical.

I know how you feel to a certain extent. When I was younger, I spent a lot of time trying to stay ahead of the game, not only with some gadgets, but in life in general. Now that I'm more experienced in life I've learned to adopt a much simpler outlook. Now I'm happy with life as-is and I'm happy with what I have. :)

i've thought for quite a while that i just need to get the right flashlights and the right amount of flashlights. then i won't need to buy anymore for quite a while. the problem is, i keep finding flashlights that fill certain rolls better, and ones i like better than what i have. so i keep buying, and selling, and buying, and so on. 'tis fun, though. flashlights are such neat little things.
