Are there any standards for testing how far a headlight/assembly can throw the light at objects on the road?

Metroplex,

Can you keep us posted with your findings? I have a LED headlight system (almost finished making it), but it would be nice to know some good ways to ensure it is 100% safe as well as check the beam so it appears to be legal. I did some research already and found how much brightness the typical headlight has and how the beam should be shaped and a little about horizontal cutoff for safety, but I still need some more good information. There are others with similar project ideas, and this would be very helpful to them. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Interesting video on youtube about headlights. Its from the UK but on subject. I guess you would need a headlight alignment tool.
