Hey guys, my nephew went to live in Sweden for two years. I want to send him a care package, including a nice Cree LED flashlight.

Problem is, I don't know what kind of batteries are most commonly available in Sweden. He is pretty poor so I would like to know what batteries are cheapest and most available.

If anyone can give me information about what batteries are cheap and easy to find in Sweden, I would appreciate it!

Well, Sweden is a pretty civilized place, so you could pretty much find any batteries you can find anywhere else. Allthough, If he has a limited budget, he should forget about CR123, last time I checked they go for about 70SEK (10USD) in stores. And I'm guessing he wont buy them from the net unless he's a total flashoholic. Who unless flashoholics do USE CR123 to a greater extent? I'm living in pretty much the same conditions as your nephew, in Sweden and a student with limited budget, and I would prefer something that uses AA, always the cheapest and most commonly available option regardless of where you are, it seems. AAAs and D-cells are also very common, but not as cheap as AA. Allthough if you look around, you can get them cheap, for ex 2 Sony D-cells go for about 10SEK in 10 crowns stores (goes without saying :) ). I don't use C's in any application, but wouldn't say that they are hard to get. But all in all, I would recommend AAs. Another alt would be if you could buy him rechargable lithiums and a charger? A Fenix L1D CE with 14500s (and run AA in emergencies) maybe? Depending on your budget. Must say that it's awfully nice of you to give him a cree, everybody should have such a nice uncle! :goodjob:

Good luck and cheers!

Hello Hellbore.

I would suggest a Fenix L2D CE or P1D CE but if you choose P1D CE you also have to buy RCR 123 and a charger from AW to send with it.

As Lobo said, the CR123 is very expensive here, approximately 7$ from "Clas Ohlson" = a common store here.

My advice is Fenix L2D CE with regular Alkalines or NI-MH.

What about a Cree modded Elly light? I have one I could send him ready to go.

I have another question. He has an Inova XO3. He thought he would need a bright flashlight because there are times when it is dark all the time in Sweden, right? Certain parts of the year?

It seems to me like the XO3 isn't that practical for lighting your way around, it is so focused, it's all hotspot with no fill.

How do you think a Cree Elly compares in useability in this case? I think the Cree Elly has much more useable side spill and a whiter light. His XO3 is very very blue.

Hello Hellbore.

Yes it pretty dark now in the winter here, especially in the north of sweden.

In Kiruna, is the sun away18 hours per day now.

I think your Elly.Cree would be just fine for him, i think the Elly is better than the [/font]XO3.

Almost everything in sweden is more expensive than in the US,
one of the resons is that we got the worlds highest taxes (25%)
and a lot of other reasons...

CR123 is expensive to buy (as Anders said) but most all
battery types are aviable over here with no problems.

I think that what he needs is a AA, AAA, C or D powered light,
i would reccomend some of the new Fenix Cree lights, Fenix L1D CE?

Cree Elly... is it with stock elly reflector or with the cree optics?

And no, if you are not living in the absolute northest parts there
are no time of the year where there are dark _all_ the time, but
of course even down here in stockholm there are winter days
where the sun rises at 8 and is down by 15... shortest day of the
year is about 5 hours where the sun is over the horizon i think...
