Best charger for AW's C? I tried searching but keep getting fatal memory errors......

I have a pila charger for my AW Li-Ion 17670's would this work with magnets and wires? Also recomended is the Triton but was hoping to find something a bit cheaper...... A while back I saw an adapter for the ultrafire charger but I can't seem to find it.

The Pila IBC with wire-magnet connectors will be all right - pretty slow at ~0.2C, but if you don't have something with more output, it should do.

LuxLuthor sells the connectors if you need them.

Is there some trick in soldering to the magnets? I soldered some wire to DX magnets and they lost the magnetism.
After that I noticed that I can charge C cell in DSD charger with a spacer...

Heating up a magnet will de-magnetize it. The solder/weld has to be done very quickly with the right gear.

If you are using a DSD, watch the charge VERY carefully. It will be unlikely to terminate properly at 4.2V, and you do NOT want a "C"-size hand-grenade going off in your house.

Actually it seems to terminate at 4.10, but I don't leave the cells in the charger after the light turns green, so I don't know if it tricke charges them after that.

I'd like to get better charger and leave the dsd:s at work and at the country house, but I haven't found perfect replacement yet.

BC-6 charger or BC-8, I recently got one. It does all chemistries and all sizes. Been charging spot lights, PB, NiMh AAAs , A123 (rare comodity in a charger) and some AW cells in a light by using a jack; ithandles in all sizes and in series:
Pb
li-ion
li-fe
li-poly
NiMh
NiCd
input is ac or 12 dc.
Charges in series with or without balancing taps. Manual or automatic modes, 5 programable memories, easily set Amp limits, volt limits, time limits, charge and discharge cycles, quick charging and storage charging. Detects bad batteries and user errors. Output to 5.0 amps. I can charge A123 singles or packs at 5.0 amps, takes only minutes!

Does a great job of Charging AW cells, single, in series or balancing a pack of AWs.

Forgot where I got it, I think here.

Northern Lights,

I was reading the PDF on the BC6 & BC8 and it says that Li-Ions are 3.6v with a cutoff of 4.1. Will this charger charge AW's 3.7v cells to their full capacity. It looks like a nice charger and I'm probally gonna pick one up today. They were $169 (BC6) and $269 (BC8) at rcaccessories.com.

4.1V is ~90% of full capacity for a Li-Ion, so you could think of a "C" Li-Ion charged to 4.1V as having ~3000mAh capacity instead of 3300mAh.

On the plus side, charging a Li-Ion to 4.1V instead of 4.2V will greatly extend its cycle life.

You can plug it directly into 110 AC house outlet or use 12V DC. It is supplies with alligator clip 12V input and a 3 prong, grounded power cord. Interesting enough if you use house current then the input 12V leads are hot 12V DC and now are a reasonable 12V power source!

I am also looking for a Li-ion charger for C sized AW batteries. What is the best valued charger I can buy for under $100? Right now, I'm looking at the Pila IBC charger (around $50) as it charges to full capacity and does not trickle charge after 4.2V. However, time is an issue, and the Pila IBC charges at 600mAH. Are there other chargers out there that charge faster without the trickle?

As a reference, here are the chargers I am currently looking at:

1) Ultrafire WF-139 charges at 450mAh, goes for under $20
2) Pila IBC charges at 600 mAh, goes for around $50
2) Maha C777 Plus II charges at 400mAH, goes for around $80

Does anyone have more insight into a li-ion chargers that charges faster and costs less? I also wouldn't mind being able to charge more than 2 cells at a time. 4-8 would be ideal.

thanks in advance!

Schulze makes an excellent series of chargers. They are capable of charging and balancing 8 Li-Ion cells at a time, or charging 14 cells without balancing. They can also charge at rates that will charge your cells in around a hour.

They can also charge up to 36 NiCd or NiMh cells, and 23 lead acid cells.

In addition, you also have a second charging port that allows you to charge up to 6 Nickel cells and 3 Li-Ion cells. Both charging ports can be used at the same time.

It is a little more expensive, but it will charge everything you need to charge, except 3.0 volt R-CR123 Li-Ion cobalt cells.

It can also discharge cells and packs and output the information to your PC.

Tom,
Can you recommend some sources?
I hurridly purchased the BC6 not having the time to research it when I wanted it, I am satisfied with it and it too can PC interface. The Schultze and BC8 will charge larger series packs however so I may need to upgrade again as my interest grows into bigger lights.
I had heard good things about the Schulze, JJ uses one. I did not stumble on a source that enticed me at the moment of my purchase.

This charger looks like it may be useful.

It is a Camcorder Li Ion charger for one or two cell packs. I would think that you could put the cells into some battery holders and connect the leads to the proper terminals.

Hello Northern Lights,

Sorry, I can't help you there. You can Google Schulze chargers and come up with a list to choose from, but the place I bought mine stopped carrying them.

You may want to cross check your choices with trusted dealers on RC Groups.

Schulze chargers; here's a link, but they offer so many models that it can get confusing.

The Schulze chargers are used a lot (maybe mostly) by Radio Control hobbiests, so you will probably be able to find them at the larger companies that cater to R/C airplanes and cars and the like.
