Hi everyone.

I have been viewing this forum for a while and gathered alot of useful information from it. It seem to be the most usefull place I have found to learn about LED lighting and I am very happy I have found it. This is my first of many posts.

I have tried using the "search" function but it does not seem to work for me. I keep getting the message
"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 131072 bytes) "

I need to source some different types of Li-ion cells to have a play around with but sourcing these in the UK seems to be very difficult. I can find loads of companies to build custom pack but no companies like batteryspace and allbattery to source the individual cells from.

Does anyone know of a source in the UK?

I would appreciate and advise. Thanks in advance.

Hello, and welcome to CPF! :welcome:

Everyone is having those search problems at the moment; there seems to be some temporary glitch with the forum software. You could try using the Google search at the top of the forum instead. It will find many things, but will miss some of the more recent posts.

As far as sourcing Li-ions is concerned, I'm afraid I can't help you much, but maybe others can. One option that some have investigated is to buy the replacement battery packs for power tools and take them apart to get the individual cells out of them. There are threads here and there that explain what kind of cells you might find in which brands of battery. Some of the cells are very nice ones with the latest technology and good performance.

I have had this problem as well, the only sources I found were rediculus pricing wise. The ebay link looks good for unprotected cells but nothing protected and I can not see a charger there. The various US sources all looked to charge stupid amounts for the shiping and from what I read your more likely to get stung for the customs from the US. In the end I ordered some from DX. I was distinctly dubious and ordered more than I needed which is just as well as as I got 1 doa and two otheres are definatly not up to scratch when I tested them all, the other 9 I have look OK. I also got a couple of chargers which look to be ok and operating to spec... In theory it was a big enough order to be chargeable for duty but I had nothing to pay.

I live in the UK and I would recommend AW

He's based in Hong kong but I've found that his delivery times are faster than if I had ordered from a UK company (no exaggeration). The quality of his batteries are also very good and are available in protected and un protected versions.

Dealextreme and Kaidomain usually take much longer.

I would very strongly advise against buying ANY cells on eBay, whether rechargeables or primaries.

As monkeyboy says, AW's Li-Ion cells are highly recommended. The link is to his sales thread, and his International shipping is very fast and efficient.
