Hello,

Can someone please help me? I'm afraid of short circuiting my batter, but I have lifepo4 battery from deal extreme that's 3.2v 17340 450mah. I can't fit in a p2d, but if I remove the plastic cover it fits. Is this safe? Will it cause short circuit?

Thanks!

why do you need it, will it harm the flashlight? It wont fit otherwise.

Most lights work by having the tailcap conduct from the negative terminal to the body. If the uncovered, uninsulated cell touches the body, it'll power the flashlight with no need for the tailcap. You'll have a light that can't reliably stay off.

From lightreviews.com :
but the P2D CE has the advantage of a push button switch instead of a twist switch. (tacktical end switch)

so the PD2 CE version at least is dependant on keeping the can of the cell from touching the body , just like Fallingwater said. while it might not make immediate contact, because annodising internally can keep contact from occuring, it could or will in eventuality, then it will turn itself on :-(

also some Li-ion battereis are PROTECTED, and if you remove the insulation on the protected cell, you expose the wire going to the other pole of the battery, if the curcuit is on the BOTTOM, like some ultrafire cells, you would risk a Dead short of the cell when the protection wire shorts against the body. probably smoke the switch in the process.
even "jamming" a protected cell in, that uses bottom protection could cause this dead short. and it will be a short of the Cell itself, not protected by the protection. :-(

OK! Thanks for all your inputs!

But, what if I wrap a piece of scotch tape around it? Will it be safe enough?

Thanks

Hello,

In order to fit the RCR123 3.0V cells in my Surefire L2, I had to remove the outer foil. This was ok as there was a second, transparant foil underneath. It works ok now, even though it remains a tight fit.
I find it worrying that Fenix makes their housings too tight as well...:thumbsdow

Kind regards,
joris

okay, I'll try that!

If I use the multimeter and measure there is no voltage going on the body part of the battery then it should be safe!

scotch tape wears away quickly, or it can tear easily.

I tried that with one of my rechargables, bad idea pretty spark! You might have to sand down the inside of light a bit. Took me about 30 min to make mine fit.

I didn't know it was a very bad idea nor that 17340 is different than cr123 :(

I guess i'll throw it out :( if someone could give me a link to a 3.2v or 3.0 recharchables that has the most capacity it will be great.
