4pm to 12am
Location: Joseph D. Grant County Park
18405 Mt. Hamilton Road, San Jose, CA
Park admission: $6 per car
The days grow shorter and darkness comes earlier which means we are shifting into that wonderful time of year we call Flashlight Season! It's time again for those of us in the Bay Area to come together and celebrate with a get-together and barbecue in the great outdoors. Here's a chance to show off your latest and greatest with your fellow flashaholic while enjoying a bbq dinner. Like last year we will be returning to Grant County Park in the hills above San Jose. Overnight camping is also available for those who wish to spend the night.

- IMPORTANT INFORMATION -
This is the park entrance.
There is a $6 per vehicle charge when you enter the park. Pay at the ticket machine on the side of the building at the entrance. If you arrive after sunset the ticket machine will not sell you a pass. Instead put your $6 in a box at the picnic area we'll be using and the ranger will stop by to collect it. This is what they told me to do.
When you enter the park look for the yellow CPF arrow signs pointing the way to the parking and picnic area that we'll be using.
If you are staying the night (a nice option if you are coming from afar) buy a car campsite instead. Car campsites are $20 ($10 senior/disabled) and the price allows you to have two vehicles. Camping reservations may be made in advance (http://www.gooutsideandplay.org/). Reservations for Saturday night also require a Friday night stay (two nights total), so I recommend just buying your Saturday night campsite upon entry as I doubt the campground will be full in October.
The front gate to the park will be locked at 11pm that night and cars can only exit after that time.
Dogs are allowed and must be on a leash no longer than six feet.
Alcohol is permitted, except no drinking is allowed in any parking lots.
Sun and Moon data for Saturday, October 13th:

Maps:
Google Map of park location. I recommend using Quimby Road as opposed to Mt. Hamilton Road.
Quimby Road is a only 4 miles long from the foot of the mountain to the park entrance.
Quimby Road ends at Mt. Hamilton Road, and just make a right turn and you'll see the park entrance in 100 yards.
Park Interior Map. We will be in one of the picnic areas just south of the maintenance yard.
Look for the yellow CPF arrow signs pointing the way once you enter the park.
Please check back to this post for any updates.
