4pm to 12am
Location: Joseph D. Grant County Park
18405 Mt. Hamilton Road, San Jose, CA
Park admission: $6 per car

The days grow shorter and darkness comes earlier which means we are shifting into that wonderful time of year we call Flashlight Season! It's time again for those of us in the Bay Area to come together and celebrate with a get-together and barbecue in the great outdoors. Here's a chance to show off your latest and greatest with your fellow flashaholic while enjoying a bbq dinner. Like last year we will be returning to Grant County Park in the hills above San Jose. Overnight camping is also available for those who wish to spend the night.

- IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

This is the park entrance.

There is a $6 per vehicle charge when you enter the park. Pay at the ticket machine on the side of the building at the entrance. If you arrive after sunset the ticket machine will not sell you a pass. Instead put your $6 in a box at the picnic area we'll be using and the ranger will stop by to collect it. This is what they told me to do.

When you enter the park look for the yellow CPF arrow signs pointing the way to the parking and picnic area that we'll be using.

If you are staying the night (a nice option if you are coming from afar) buy a car campsite instead. Car campsites are $20 ($10 senior/disabled) and the price allows you to have two vehicles. Camping reservations may be made in advance (http://www.gooutsideandplay.org/). Reservations for Saturday night also require a Friday night stay (two nights total), so I recommend just buying your Saturday night campsite upon entry as I doubt the campground will be full in October.

The front gate to the park will be locked at 11pm that night and cars can only exit after that time.

Dogs are allowed and must be on a leash no longer than six feet.
Alcohol is permitted, except no drinking is allowed in any parking lots.

Sun and Moon data for Saturday, October 13th:

SUN
Sunset 6:34 p.m.
End civil twilight 7:00 p.m.

MOON
Waxing crescent with 6% of the Moon's
visible disk illuminated.
Moonrise 9:43 a.m.
Moon transit 2:42 p.m.
Moonset 7:35 p.m.

Maps:

Google Map of park location. I recommend using Quimby Road as opposed to Mt. Hamilton Road.
Quimby Road is a only 4 miles long from the foot of the mountain to the park entrance.
Quimby Road ends at Mt. Hamilton Road, and just make a right turn and you'll see the park entrance in 100 yards.

Park Interior Map. We will be in one of the picnic areas just south of the maintenance yard.
Look for the yellow CPF arrow signs pointing the way once you enter the park.

Will bring the big BBQ and something sweet.:D

I hear some folks that are coming haven't posted yet. If you're one of them please make yourself heard so I can add you to the list. We need to know how much food to bring.

I'll be there again. It turns out that Natalie (in background of first pic) will be visiting that weekend, so add 1 guest. :)

Well I have vacation that week so it looks like ill be there with girlfreind.

Glad the signups are picking up as the date gets closer. We could use some more food selections, so if you have a specialty you'd like to bring please post.

I'll put you down as a maybe for now. Hope you can make it.

well i want to go, if you guys dont change the address or dates again, my parents used to do that, and it brings up bad memories :)

Wake me up before you go.

i hope Jim has some AC he will let me use, because then i can show ya my new LED contraption that would light up the whole campsite like a streetlight (for a mere 100Watts or so)

Me + 1/2 the little dishwasher.
i will try and bring vegies and fruit stuff again OR anything you ask me to bring instead.

it was only a fluke that i happen to see this thread, i wonder if everyone who WOULD come even knows about it? did you know that the "classifieds" at the bottom of the forum are/were FREE for a while? you can slap up a micro banner

Not sure which event you're referring too. I do recall having to change the location of our 2006 CPF camping trip (2007 wasn't changed), and we did have to reschedule the shoot day for the National Geographic flashlight special. This is the third Flashapalooza I've hosted (one in L.A. and two in the bay area) and I don't remember changing the location or date once it was established. Maybe it was one of the night hikes you're referring too.

I'd like to see that :wow:

Got you down for fruit and vegetables. Choco the dishwasher is more than welcome. :)

There are still some going that haven't posted yet. I'm waiting for them to answer up before I update the attendance list. Still, there appear to be some who haven't heard about this event. If you tell me how to setup a micro banner I'll get to work on it.

the advertising stuff is new to me, and nothing i really want to deal with , but FREE is free :) as long as it isnt selling commertial stuff, it still seems to be free.
