BB Nexgen Max V?

The Sandwich Shoppe website states that the max output of the BB Nexgen boost is 6V. I have a UV LED with a Vf of 8V that I'd like to put in a flashlight, but only running at 500mA; is there any chance that a Nexgen at that current could provide 8V?

If I went ahead and tried this, and by chance the LED illuminated, would I be stressing the driver? Or underdriving the LED current?

The MTN-BST2 from Mountian Electronics has a boost output range of 6-13.5V

Yes, applying 8V to any electronics with a specified max of 6V is going to put severe stress on it. The BB Nexgen does not have open load protection. That means that if you put this LED on it, it will try to boost above 6V. That would create a significant reliability issue for the BB.

Underdriving the LED is not a problem, except that you will not get the performance you want. But overvoltaging the driver is likely to let the magic smoke out.

I already checked Taskled.com. The only single-cell boost driver is discontinued.
