Here are beam shots of 4 of my lights. All taken at the same exact exposure at a distance of 3 feet. 3 of them are rated at 220 to 260 lumen, and 1 is rated at 120 lumens.

Z2 w/BOG Q5 SP 230 lumen.......SF E2DL 120 lumen.......OpticsHQ Q5 Head on E2D body....G2 w/WolfEyes Q5 260 lumen

Here they are in the same order. Click to see higher resolution...

I guess my point is that not all lumen ratings are created equal....The E2DL lights up the closet in a ceiling bounce test equally as well or better than the higher rated lumen lights. Not only that...but it kicks the other three to the curb when it comes to throw.

Edit: OK....All the new requested shots are added. Enjoy!

More indoors at 20ft

4 Stops Underexposed - The WE is the one that claims the highest lumen output at 260 lumen

And the outdoor shots at about 50ft to the corner of the fence.

OK....Now that all the photos have been added....You tell me which light is performing the best. Is it the 120 lumen light, or the others that claim at least twice the lumen output?

Re: Beamshots of 4 lights

BOG eh? Thanks!

That is the only major player LED drop-in that I have not bought, figures.

Re: Beamshots of 4 lights

I expected the first pic to be the E2DL, but i guess not. The BOG is smooth, with little spill, must be a decent thrower?

The WE spill is very bright compared to the others and hasn't all been captured in the photograph either by the look of it, not sure if it makes up for the difference in lumens output, but it is noticable.

Re: Beamshots of 4 lights

I have listed the order they are in. It just amazes me that one company can rate their light at 120 lumen, while other companies can rate theirs at twice that, and not be any brighter than the 120 lumen light...

No offence intended but hasn't this discussion been done over and over where they typcially end up in slanging matches?

That may be Keeper. But, until you see it with your own eyes....well, you know. Why such a difference in the way output is rated from company to company. Makes it kinda hard to do comparisons, when none of the numbers add up to the same thing. I guess it all comes down to honesty, and who's afraid to tell the truth. Kinda like politics, eh?

Re: Beamshots of 4 lights

The SF looks to have less spill then the others. Is that the case in real use?

Could you stop the same photos down some to show hot spot intensity?

Re: Beamshots of 4 lights

The E2DL does have less spill. I will add some stopped down pics tomorrow. I am in search of my pillow right now :candle:

Fair point, and i do agree and understand. Maybe a uniform method of measurement would make this much easier.

Is underquoting outputs from the front of the light more truthful and honest than quoting outputs at the emitter?

Thanks for posting these pics. Surefire has been discussed ad-nausium in other threads (that usually center around Surefire-bashing/inferiority) and yet there are still CPF members who use manufacturer lumen-claims to praise products, and bash others. That to me is more disturbing than the manufacturers making the false claims.

**edit** sorry for the little rant:eek:

If you could also post outdoor beamshots that would be great.

thanks!!

Re: Beamshots of 4 lights

I will get some outdoor shots up tonight after it gets dark. I will also post some more indoor shots at a distance of 15 to 20 feet. Oh yeah....and also some under exsposed shots to compare the hot spots...

Don't get me wrong here. I am not really trying to stir anything up, and there is really no reason my questions should offend anyone here at CPF. I use all my lights on a regular basis, and I am not picking out, or on any particular manufacturer here....Just using the lights I have for this comparison. It's just that I as a consumer would like to know how many actual lumen are coming out the business end of my lights. Personally I would respect any company that advertised at true out the front lumen, than the inflated manufacturer ratings....Just to make their lights look and sell better.

Re: Beamshots of 4 lights

Erm... No offense to your beamshots, the effort nor intent, but...
You really can't see a thing from those.

Could you post some underexposed shots where the hotspots aren't just a uniformly burned out blotch and some outdoor shots, pwetty please :D

Re: Beamshots of 4 lights

Yeah, I know. I am working on a bunch of shots right now....and will be adding them soon. 2, 3, and 4 stops under....outdoor shots, and some more indoor shots at 20 feet. Will be posting within the next couple of hours.
