A P7 or MC-E simply can't produce the spot intensity of an XR-E or SSC P4.

The simple view is the spot intensity comes from the intensity of the light being emitted by the die, a quad die LED may put out 3x as many lumens as a single die LED but each die is only putting out 3/4 of the lumens, i.e. the spot will only be 3/4 of the intensity of a single die light. Obviously the spot will be larger and perhaps more useful but it won't be brighter.

The reason that this is the simple view is that LEDs have lenses above their dies which can concentrate the light from the LEDs which would have the same effect of getting the dice closer together (if more than one) or making them smaller.
