Is there any particular advantage to any of the SF Centurions for hosting the Malkoff M60 drop in??

M2 Centurion® $179.00

C2 Centurion® LED $154

C2 Centurion® $110-122

It would seem there is no need to pay the extra $$ and go with the cheapest model here, but am I missing somthing??

Thanks, R

Keep in mind, the higher price is for the SF LED module.

Since you know you're going to replace the guts anyway, get the cheaper incan.

The M2 version is basically the same as a C2 but with a "shock absorbing" head - designed to prolong the incan bulb from the shock of weapons' fire.

Considered opinion on the board believes the shock absorbing head would trap heat and negatively impact the life of your M60.

BTW Great info, I appreciate it....

I support the C3 choice 110%!

Just a little longer with even more runtime, love the C3's paired with a Malkoff. Like my Sig line? :D

I'd go with the C3 unless it is too big, then go for the C2.

Skip the C2-LED, not a bad light, but you can get more for your $$$ if you seek out an aftermarket drop in. I have seen C2s sell for $65 on ebay, add a malkoff M60/L/LL and you may even end up saving some $$$.

I chose the M2, not for the shock damping, but for the thicker walled bezel. I have easily dented the standard 6P/C2/C3/9P bezel, on a waist high drop to the floor. I met up with some other CPFers today and he also had a dented 6P bezel... so I am fairly confident these things are somewhat under-designed.:duck:

If it were me I'd opt for a C3 body with an M2 bezel, run it with a pair of 17500 cells for all the brightness and extended run time. Mod the tailcap with a 60 ohm sanwiche module and you'll have an outstanding light (IMHO).

I agree, the P60L pill is a major flop that came out of surefire. I mean it has really good run time on my cingle 18650 body, other than that it is worthless.

Helo Robertesq1.. Merry Christmas To You!!

I have been using a 6P with M2 bezel since start of 2007, so far so good.. No problems with heat at all..

The 3 lights that you mention are all good but i would personally take the M2 over the rest.. Thicker bezel over the C2..

Regards

Get either the C2 incandecent or the M2. I use the C2 personally, I don't plan on running mine over with a truck so the added bulk of the M2 was unecessary. The C2 is more compact, and lower profile, the M2 is a little bigger but seriously overbuilt. Use a bit of aluminum foil as a shim between the M2 body and the M60 and the shock isolation bezel won't be a problem for heatsinking.

I took the C2 route. 3 cells would have been nice for the longer runtimes, but it would become a monster (size-wise) and with 3,7 cells (starting at 4,2V each) I would probably fry the M60.

As for the bezel, I found around here a very nice aftermarket SS crenelated bezel for the P/C series that is just marvellous!

Great choice...the C2 is a great light and a great size. I bought one for my M60.

There are one cell extenders available to increase the length if you ever need it. Surefire used to offer the A19...but I don't think it still does; Lighthound had an extender available...as did some other manufacturers. Those give you the option of stepping up to 3 cells should you want to do so.

If you had a C3, the ideal rechargeable setup would be with 2x17500's. It was mentioned above.

No question, plain C2.

No need to pay extra for the C2 LED.

No need for the shock-isolation of the M2 at all, in in fact it is counter-productive for heat dissipation.

C3 over the C2, IMO. 2x17500 really has it all over two rcr123's, if you're into rechargeables. Even two AA's with an M30 drop-in, if you're a little odder than most.
It just comes down to considerably more capacity for any of the battery chemistries (Even if you're using 123 primaries, you still get 50% more runtime with a great regulated unit like the Malkoff). I don't think the slight extra length is an issue, but YMMV.

More great battery choices for the three-celled units.

I have been carrying the same C2 in my pocket for about 4 years and it has never missed a beat. I tried the p61 and it just ate batteries for not much more brightness. I found this forum about a month ago and ordered a M60 and stuck it in this light. IMOP this setup cannot be beat. My light has slight wear through the finish but it is a bulletproof light. Bright as anything out there. I am on my first set of fresh SF123's still and would guess that I have close to two hours of short blasts through them. So the M60 for sure adds run times and just flat out works. I have not jumped off on rcr123's yet but will soon.

So yeah my vote is for c2, I tried my 9p in my pocket last night and it is just a little to big different light but the same length.

Yeah the 3 cell lights are just a little too big for EDC pocket carry. If I were backpacking or had a job where I'd need to use it for patrol duty the 3 cells would be fine. At that point though I think I'd shoot for a 2x18650 leef/fivemega body for the battery capacity.
