Best High Cap AAs?

I am partial to the somewhat pricey Elite 1700mAh 20A NiMH cells. There ar higher capacity cells available in both alkaline and NiMH, but I am sure a more informed source will be able to better elaborate.

Hello GarageBoy,

The Powerex 2700 mAh cells from Thomas Distributing come with a warranty, and seem to perform well. If they develop high self discharge rates, exercise your warranty. I think they are pretty hard to beat.

I recently (in the last month or so) bought a dozen AA Sanyo 2700's and 16 Powerex 2700's. The Powerex tested out with around 100-150 more mAh capacity than the Sanyos. None of the Sanyo's tested above 2483 mAh, and none below 2410 mAh. This was on my C9000's. I was expecting a bit more from them, but oh well.

Time will tell, however - I have not run more tests on them since the first test, and they have all now been cycled a few times, so hopefully things have improved on the Sanyo's.

For the money, I'd go with the Powerex cells. Thomas Distributing had 16 of them with 8 4 cell plastic cases and a black pouch for $50 and $3.99 shipping when I bought them. Tack on no sales tax if you are outside of IL, the 5% returning customer discount and the warranty on the cells and they are hard to beat.

I've had the same experience with Sanyo 2700s. I have eight, and even after several cycles, including two Break-In modes on my C9000, only two test higher than 2500, and they test just barely higher. They were very expensive batteries ($30 for four), and I'm very disappointed with them.

The Sanyos aren't warrantied?

I took back one package of four, but the replacement batteries are just the same as the ones I returned. They all are in the 2480 to 2520 range, with the majority being around 2490.

I use the synergy cells from batterybob.com, great cells with an avg of around 2755-2780 mah and a pretty low self discharge, and you can use the promo code SHEEP to get 10% off all orders.

FWIW, the Maha Powerex cells, which I happened to purchase from T-D, are so far the only AA/AAA cells that have not developed a fast self-discharge. The Sanyo, Sony, Energizer cells, all in the 2500-2700 mah capacity range, have developed self discharge to the point of being useless in a week from a full charge. The Powerex cells will still be useful after a month of storage under the seat in a car, on a shelf in the basement in the house, etc. I did purchase some Maha Imedion LSD AA/AAA cells at 2100mah for my own testing. The stated capacity is met in testing with the BC-900. The low-self-discharge jury in my house is still deliberating.

These sound very promising.

Anyone else have first hand experience with the Synergy 2800s?

Very well priced at $25 for 10. Free shipping
