Ok, I have read the looooooong post a fellow CPFmer posted about all the different types of batteries, etc....

Well, my question is.....

1) Can rechargeable be used on Surefire's G2 (I will eventually be upgrading to an M60L)?

2) Would you go with NiCad, NIMh, or Lion?

3) RCR123, or the 17860 (or something like that)?

3) What package kind would you get (battery & charger)? Looking for one where I dont have to stand around & time the charger to unplug after a certain time frame.

4) Who would you order it from?

5) How reliable are the rechargeables? Do they go out/burn out quickly or often?

Thank you all

There are a number of issues here, most of which would best be raised in the Batteries section.

However, before I move it there, I would advise you that you could experience overheating problems running an LED drop-in in a G2, due to the Nitrolon (rather than metal) head. You may wish to consider a G2L, or other model, instead.

Would you go with NiCad, NIMh, or Lion?

I'll leave the other four questions to the experts, but here's a quick rundown on the three batts:

NiCad is the oldest & least desirable of the three. The memory effect causes this battery to not fully charge after repeated use. Lowest price, low energy density.

NiMH has higher energy density than NiCad, but also has shorter life. Less memory effect also.

Li-Ion has the highest energy density, almost no memory effect, and is lightweight. Most expensive, easiest to mess up both in discharge & recharge. When you read about laptop computers catching fire, think Li-Ion.

>2) Would you go with NiCad, NIMh, or Lion?
LiIon

>3) RCR123, or the 17860 (or something like that)?
18650

>3) What package kind would you get (battery & charger)? Looking for one where I dont have to stand around & time the charger to unplug after a certain time frame.
RC charger and Trustfire cells.

>4) Who would you order it from?
DX

>5) How reliable are the rechargeables? Do they go out/burn out quickly or often?
Mine is fine after years of use; dunno about the RC charger on DX.
