Hi.

A Mag 2c Tri-Seoul or Tri-Cree is in the works. A triple star heatsink already ordered.
However, my choice of reflectors are not entirely clear. I was thinking of 3 IMS 20 mm if I go for the Seoul P4 version. Would this work?

If I instead wait for the Cree R4's to be available, is there any suitable reflectors out there? Or could I go with the IMS 20 in this case as well?

The IMS20 or McR20-S will give you a wall of light. Its what I used in the same mod. McR19's will give you a spot with sidespill.
The deciding factor was my budget $15 for 3 IMS or $45 for 3 McR's
McR's will give a more "pure" beam and more output.
But you'll never know the difference. 550-600 lumen difference is barely detectable by eye.

I used the IMS20 and Khatod20 on my tri-Seouls and they both work great without any need for filing. They are not suitable for the Crees unless you do some filing. For the tri-Crees, I used the Cree optics sold by DX - still not entirely satisfied with them as I couldn't get a nice, clean hotspot. Am now waiting for my tri-reflector from DX to see if they do a better job on the Crees.

3 x Fraen reflector with 3 x Q5 = 750 lumens @ 1 A.

OK - never in real life...

P4-bin @350mA: 81 - @750mA: 145 - @1000mA: 177
Q2-bin @350mA: 87 - @750mA: 157 - @1000mA: 192
Q4-bin @350mA: 100 - @750mA: 181 - @1000mA: 221
Q5-bin @350mA: 107 - @750mA: 193 - @1000mA: 235
max @350mA: 114 - @750mA: 205 - @1000mA: 250

750 lumens at 1A is based on the theoretical limit of Q5's kept at a constant temperature of 25 C - and that's just emitter lumens.

In the real world things heat up and luminous flux goes down. Then you have losses everywhere else, reflectors lens, etc. Torch lumens from a Tri-Cree Q5 would probably be around 550-600...not 750. But it makes a good sales pitch.

Regardless, it will be hella bright - and much more runtime then an incan. :D
