I recently got approved for a depredation permit to hunt deer at night inside city limits. This means I have to hunt with archery equipment, not a problem, the hunting has been good. Alot of activity is at night, and the permits allow hunting at night. I need a light that can shine approximately 25-30 yards and can be mounted to my bow, preferably to the stabilizer mount (5/16-24 thread) hole. I'm not sure how cheaply I can purchase a light like this or even what type of light is best. Weight, if mounted in this hole, is not an issue within reason. Give me your best suggestions.

Thanks guys.

Surefire 6P with any good SINGLE MODE drop-in or the stock incan. Duct tape it to the stabalizer and it works perfect! You can use the 6P as a twisty and it will make ZERO noise. This works perfect with a compound, peep sight and pins. The pins show up as black against your target so it's very easy to see them. I would make sure to do a lot of practice with this set up and limit shots to around 20 yds. Some deer will run as soon as you hit the light and some will just look around. The ones that just look around are gonna be in big trouble!!!!!

I had a similar situation with rabbits in my garden. I found this item on DX, sku 12000. It's a universal nylon mount with velcro straps. It works like a charm on the barrel of my pellet gun. I use it with an aspheric 3aaa flashlight I modded myself. I've made a few ~40 yard shots. With that mount, you could use any decent 2aa or 3aaa flashlight strapped onto the stabilizer.
I would recommend an aspheric flashlight that produces a square hotspot when tightly focused. It brings out all the details around your prey and not other items around you or between you and the prey.

i know a mini maglite is not powerful enough but my dad found...somewhere...a tailcap for the minimag that screws directly into his bow it serves as a counterweight and...whatever other "legal" need you have. I know the minimags are under-powered, but mayhaps there is a mod for them that is available. (by the way, which city, do you need help? and what do you do with the extra venison?) ****sharpens his broadheads****:devil:

Thanks for all the responses guys. I saw the surefire light is only 65 lumens unless the high output lamp is purchased. Not sure how bright that is, but for less money, would this light be good with more lumens?

When spotlighting deer, for recreation in PA, I use a 2 million candlepower light and it doesn't seem to bother the deer much. I'm hoping that whatever light I settle on won't bother the deer. I am anticipating turning the light on above the deer and then moving it down onto them for the shot.

I'm wondering if I could epoxy a 5/16-24 stud to the back of the ultrafire light and screw that into the stabilizer bushing. Also, could this light be modded in a way to accept a pressure switch?

Thanks again.

Any good twisty would work fine including the Ultrafire you posted. I use a $10.00 DX Cree R2 dropin in for my 6P. If cost is a factor, the Solarforce L2 for around $25.00 is a very solid copy of the 6P and comes with a very nice R2 installed. The nice thing about getting a 6P host is that you will be able to use all the present and future dropins with it.

Cory;

The light you linked to above is quite a large light, as long a 2 c-cell maglite and almost as thick. The lights people here are recommending are shorter and a little thicker than a mini maglite, but much more powerful.

I agree with fishx65 that your best bet is a solarforce L2 and an LED dropin module. This should be less than $30 or $35 and provide a LOT of light. Plus it's small enough to easily fit on your bow.

Good luck! Be sure to post pictures when you're set up.

If your bow has an aluminium riser you can get it drilled and tapped to accept a picatinny rail. Then the world is your oyster... you can mount a Surefire weapon light or buy a mount and put almost any flashlight you want on it. Airsoft vendors on ebay are a good source for mounts - they are perfect because you don't have to worry about recoil.

Hope this helps.
