Hi everbody,

In the future I am planning to buy a HID-light. I think these two would be the best options.
Can someone make a little comparison with pics with these lights? : Boxer 24 W vs. AE 25W vs. DBS V2
How much longer can these lights throw than a DBS V2?
What about batteries for the AE? Aren´t they special?
What would overall be the best light?

It just depends on what you priorities are. If outright throw is most important to you, the Xenide25 has a superior reflector and in my opinion more overall light and electrical component quality. The Xenide also has outstanding run-time if that matters to you. If minimum size, weight and a focusable beam are most important to you then the Boxer will be the better choice.

Yes the Xenide has special batteries but I've never had any problem with them regarding charging or balancing. I still have the first batteries that came with my AE24/S and they're still perfect.

Both of these lights will be beyond belief when you witness their throw for the first time, especially if your used to the DBS. HID is like the 4th dimension when compared to any LED.

I currently own the 25w and also owned the Boxer for a period of time. My overall pick is the Xenide, but then I own other small HIDs now and can live without Boxer in the collection.

OK, so they will both throw much longer than the DBS?
Which are the newest and best AE lights? Xenide or powerlight?
Will the shorty´s throw just as long as the regular lights because I think that the regular is too long?
How long can the different lights throw in meters? (Boxer 10W, Boxer 24W, Xenide and powerlight?
Can you focus the boxer down to 6 degrees like the Xenides/Powerlights?
Can someone please link to a Boxer vs. Xenide/Powerlight review?

1) Yes

2) Xenide

3) It has the most to do with wattage, reflector size and reflector surface.
Smooth reflectors throw farther given that they're the same size, same thing goes for wattage.

4)The Xenide and powerlight throw the further than the Boxers because of the reflector. The Boxer 24 throws farther than the 10 because of wattage. The yardage involves many variables such as ambient light and air quality. It's not uncommon to see the beam at well over 400 yards with the AE lights but a little bit less for the Boxer.

5) No, at their narrowest focus the boxer is still wider than the AE lights

6) Sorry, I don't have a review handy and I"m about to leave the house. Try doing a search for "boxer24 review" or "Xenide25 review"

Thank you for your excellent answers. It´s truly amazing how much information you can get on this website.
I still have a few questions:
Would you be a able to see a big difference between the Xenide 20 and 25 W?
How big difference would there be between a Boxer 24 and Xenide 25?
Are the lights prefocused at 6 degrees or 12 degrees? (from pts and aelight.com)
How long time does it take for the two lights to warm up?

1) yes, but the throw difference would be less than the difference between the Boxer24 and Xenide25. Because of the reflector the 20W still throws darn good. The Boxer will still produce more output than the 20W Xenide.

2)I'm guessing that you're asking about throw range again? In general explanation the Xenide will throw about .......20% better. I'm thinking back to a forest tree line that I was illuminating at 320 yards. The Boxer lit it up well while the Xenide illuminated stumps and individual trees better. It's noticeable to any eye.

3)The AE is prefocused, the Boxer is just wherever the factory or mike at pts left it when they tested it. It's kinda like asking what magnification does the spotting scope manufacturer set the eyepiece at when it leaves the factory. It doesn't really matter because it can be changed in 5 seconds. It's easy to turn it to maximum throw or max flood. :)

The Xenide is a little quicker than the Boxer but the Boxer seemed quicker than the AE Powerlight. About 25+ seconds for the Xenide and 30+ seconds for the Boxer, for each to reach full performance and color temperature. It's actually probably slightly longer than this but to the eye they appear a full output. You'd need a light meter to tell otherwise. Both are producing over 300 lumens within 2-3 seconds though.

I've noticed that you're interested in the range of these lights so I'll mention again that if you favor ultimate throw get the Xenide. If you like smaller lights get the Boxer. The Boxer's beam is actually more useful for walking and other tasks. The Xenide doesn't have much spill and the hot spot is kinda dazzling if you let it get to close on the sidewalk or dirt road. That Boxer never does that because it's more diffused.
