I have the Rayovac 1aa Sportsman Extreme headlamp as seen here.

In the newest Cabela's catalog, I saw an almost identical headlamp listed as the Browning Phantom 70, with 1 red/1 green/1 blue 5mm leds (instead of 2 red/1 blue in the ROV), and with a Luxeon Rebel led for the main beam.

Is this why Walmart closed-out the ROV 1aa headlamp recently?

Browning had the non-70 Phantom headlamp, with a LuxI or LuxIII in it like the Rayovac... and it cost about twice as much as the pre-closeout Rayovac. So I'm expecting that we'll see new Rebel-equipped Rayovac 1aa Sportsman Extreme headlamps in the near future, for $25-30...

Anyone know anything else?

I own this light, and wrote about it. Thread buried.

The Nitro is way brighter and more exciting. I wrote about my modifications too.

Compared to the Coleman Max, it has much more throw/about same form factor/better color rendering/less reliable battery format. ( modded mine to two optional cell on rear, for 1 AA or 2 AA or 3 aa use--2.5 hour, 5 hour, 7 hour.) I hate unreliable lights that go poof and need constant feeding.

The Coleman has 40 more lumens so a brighter corona. This lumen rating alone might kill this light. But this light is ideal for students and other with similar needs, as it has a diffuser.

Gander Mountain had them on clearance about two months ago here. They are already old news and being phased out.
