My car was broken into yesterday and among the things taken was my OD green Surefire G2 with a 5 mode CREE LED. The light wasn't anything super special but unfortunately, it's my only real flash light and I'm lost without it.
I decided to do another budget build based off the Surefire G2 so I hit my local gun shop / Surefire dealer on the way to work and picked up a black Surefire G2 incandescent because it was the cheapest model they stocked AND I knew I was going to order another CREE LED anyway.
I normally stuff like bulbs off eBay and have them shipped from Hong Kong but I didn't want to wait 3 or 4 weeks to get a bulb so I ordered from Lighthound based out of Texas it looks like.
I ended up ordering a Solar Force LC-XPG Cree R5 single mode drop-in because I never used any of the other modes on my other LED.
While I was there I happened to notice the Solar Force L2 Host flashlight kits for $12.99. I just paid $38.00 dollars for a G2 to use as a base and that Solar Force body looks NICE in the pictures. Looks just like the Surefire Defenders and another plus is that it has a clicky tail-cap, another item I intended to order from Lighthound anyway for $8.99. I spent the extra $4.00 dollars and got the whole host kit to check out.
I was sitting here thinking about this, really what made my old Surefire G2 what it was, was the CREE LED so I'm thinking this Solar Force one might be more then good enough for what I use it for. I just wanted to get an opinion on the over all quality of these lights, considering I use those LED's in my Surefire anyway, I already know how it's going to throw the beam but I'm wondering more about build quality of the rest of the unit?
I bought this:

I'm actually thinking about returning this Surefire G2 I picked up and putting the $38+tax back in my pocket or using the money to buy some more batteries if those Solar Force host kits are worth while.
I suppose I could keep the G2 as a spare and pick up another Solar Force LED thought too. Then I wouldn't be so lost if I misplaced one of the lights. I guess everyone could use a second, third, fourth or tenth light!
Opinions?
