Building first ROP... need help

Sorry guys if this is a dumb question (but I can't find the answer searching through the forums).

I have a Mag 4-D Host, borofloat lens, fivemega MOP reflector, stick of 6 4500mAh sub-Cs from Cheap Battery Packs, (and the bulb of course).

The tailcap spring is wider than the neg terminal end on the stick of cells. Do I need to replace the spring? I see removing the spring doesn't work as the stick of cells just slides up and down in the body... what am I doing wrong?

Take a pair of needlenose pliers and twist the center of the springtowards the center so it willcontact the neg terminal.

Or use a washer or large coin to help make contact.
