Hi there, I am new to the Candlepower Forum and looking for some help in finding a place in the USA that sells the Big Bang System? If anyone has any ideas, please help. I GOT to have one of htose awesome looking Lights..

Jerry

hi there and thanks very much. Is that the only place in the USA that carries them? I notice they sell in UK for 500 sterling.. What is the going rate here in USA or would it be cheaper to buy one from Europe? Also does anyone else own one and what is thought of it?

Thanks, Jerry

That thing looks CRAZY!

Is the housing aluminum or plastic?

A bit pricey, but if the build quality is good...

Sorry, I can't tell if your interest is in the light is genuine or professional. Still,:welcome: Where did you happen to learn about the light yourself? any more info to share? Nice with the roadway or off-road beam shape, that is a feature I hope spreads.

While a HID could be reason in itself for the purchase, if you do happen to be looking for a light, have a look around.

Best,
Linger

housing is Aluminium, afair,
BUT
there is a reason not a single bike light producer still promotes its HIDs (in the 10 W range):
they were crap when they were space-age technology - some 2-3 years ago - and now are even more crap.

With the quad-led getting used by manufacturers in raising numbers, there is nothing a HID bike light can do better.
And both consume about the same power.

There is only one thing a HID is freaky --> statup show. :)
and the BigBang is allowed to be used as official street-allowed bike illumination, of course.
(with all the cons, that pro is a very specific point, but if someone cares ...)

PS: Lupine Tesla, or the Tesla clone at DX, both are much better than any 10 W HID bike light ever produced

Yellow, the lack of cutoff really is a pita for road riding as each car highbeams you back. Doesn't matter how bright your lights are, when you have 200W in your face you can't see much. You also risk getting a bottle in your face from a rightly pissed off cager.
This is especially true for a MCE/P7 based light with a wide round beam. You can get away with a narrow beam if its tight (8deg) and doesn't spill too much into the other lane, but its best to have a cut off.

This was pretty exciting stuff back in 2006, probably not a good buy in 2009.
But where are the 900lm bike lights with cut off?

Here it is : 'only' 10 watts, average bulb life 1000 hours, 150 euros for service and replacement of bulb.

http://www.starbike.com/images/BUMM/PDF/197.pdf (It looks like there is a translation error, the english text uses the word 'ignitor' where the french and german refer to the 'burner' (the proper term for a hid 'lamp' or 'bulb').)

A shame that for all that money it is only 10w, so around 500 lumen, because just look at that beam pattern... http://amba-marketing.com/cms-files/87-0-full-bigbang2-7.jpg. Sorry Yellow, but it seems like it would kick the ~500 lumen lupine tesla http://www.mtbr.com/beamcomparisoncrx.aspx# on the road.

Here is the led headlight i was trying to link to before

http://www.levineautoparts.com/ledheadlight4.html and http://www.levineautoparts.com/ledheadlight1.html

I calculate 32w of led power for the low beam, 57.6w for the high beam. Quite a bit more interesting than the lupine Tesla.

I just found out about it myself today as i never heard of it before. I recently purchased a HID Light & Motion Front light and thought that was the Cats meow.. Well not after seeing this Big Bang Unit..

Update.. I been stewing and lusting over one of these HID Bicycle Lights about 2 years now.. Well this am i just ordered me one and it wil lbe here in the am from Peter White..Cant wait..Anyone else in the mean time snagged one of these? Jerry

Its here..! Wow this bad boy even comes in its own special aluminum shipping case.. Ok this hting is robust i must say..wish i could figure out how to post pictures of it wihtout doing the URL thing as i am clueless..

subscribe to a photo host site (I like photobucket), upload there then use the IMG link provided.

What advantages does this light have over say, a train, which I could also afford?

I'm always surprised when I go onto Peter White's site and there are still HID lights on there.

Reminds me that I better finally get rid of my old BB near the end of DST this year. Alas, the bumm people haven't shown any kind of hurry to offer an LED-based successor of comparable optical design quality.

Okay, they finally noticed the performance gap, and the competion by Philips.
So here comes the new b+m "Luxos" led-based product line...

Whew, straight out of Honey, I Shrunk the Ski Helmet II...

The isolux pics seem to show a comparison to the "40 lux" Cyo, not the brighter "60 lux" Cyo version. But hey, that's marketing.
And look at the fine print indicating a whopping 18 in-beam lumens more!
