Can I charge the batteries inside a Fivemega 6AA-2D holder this way?

I was thinking, in my CB radios, I simply plug in a 7.2V 700mA transformer into the wall overnight and it'll charge.

Can I use the same AC adapter to charge the AA batteries in a fivemega 6AA-2D?

Don't you have to connect the other end to your radio first :D

Now, just so that you don't think the answer above was for purposes of sarcasm ... the radio would have a charging circuit built into it that charges the batteries. Devices like MP3 players and cell phones also have charging circuits built into them to charge the battery, that's why you can just plug it into raw power.

I think the Fivemega charger is designed that way so that you can use something like one of those Universal chargers with a coaxial plug on it, that is available from some of the Chinese importers. Locally, batteryspace (Powerizer) and all-battery (Tenergy) carry them, and they both have web sites, so you can mail-order them as well.

EDIT If you're looking for a cheap charger, I also found a couple at http://www.amondotech.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=238 My experiences with this vendor have been less than steller, but others on this site seem to have had good experiences in the past.

The devices might have circuits that stop or slow the charging, but as long as you don't put a horrible amount of power to it, raw DC will charge a battery.
I found a 24 volt DC charger being used to charge a 7 volt NiCad at a place I volunteer a while back. I don't know how long they had been doing it but the device still worked a few seconds at a time. I suspect the charger was being plugged into a switched plug which probably saved the building.
